Oak Leaf Trail visit

Last May I started a thread about my intended trip to Milwaukee and the trail in June. Finally made it last weekend. I must say I was impressed. I took the trail on the East side from Grant Park up to above St. Francis and back. The ride was fun and I got some real great shots of the Lake Michigan shoreline. The people I encountered were real nice and they actually understood"On you Left". The trail is a real blessing to the area, I wanted to explore more areas of it but time , family and weather didn't permit this time. Hopefully next year! Enjoy the trail,I'm sure there are a lot of us that would really like to have something that good near us

Glad you enjoyed it. I remember riding it as a kid when they first paved it back in the early '70's. It wasn't as wide nor as long as it is now. It really is a treasure.

This is super late, but if you go back, check out Estabrook park. It's right off of Capitol Drive on the north side of the trail. Some really nice biking and hiking trails right along the Milwaukee River. It's pretty.

Glad you enjoyed the trail, living next to it was a huge factor in my starting to cycle. We are lucky here in Milwaukee to have such a great place to ride, now all we need are a few more on-street bike lanes to make it less harrowing to get there.

It wasn't all that long ago when Milwaukee didn't have ANY bike lanes. I still don't really trust many of them.

Paranoia maybe. I think Milwaukee has some of the most bike tolerant drivers I've been around.

I've been mowed down from behind, almost killed. I don't like 'hanging out' in the middle of traffic, painted lines on the road don't offer much safety.

If you're in the Milwaukee area again try the Ozaukee Interurban trail. Goes from Mequon to Oostburg, about 34 miles, all paved. Some city streets but mostly trail and also country riding so you get a little of everything
