What has happened to Superweek?

I've gotten back into cycling a bit after a long layoff. Stopped out last week to watch a Superweek cat. 4/5 event. I was shocked to see only about 15 racers competing and far fewer spectating. The venue had no excitement or energy at all. I left after the race really saddened and a bit depressed to see what has become of Superweek. I had a friend in high school (early '90's) who was really into bike racing, and I remember there being large fields, lots of people spectating and it was really exciting to watch the racing. What has happened?

You might want to search around (even on here). There is a lot of opinion on the subject. Deserved or not, the tide of popular cycling opinion seems to be flowing from that series. Attendance has been on a decline the last few years.

Having said that, the one race I did this year (Geneva) was fantastic. Decently sized fields for most races (except the 3's). I can't comment on the other races, except that I know turnout has been very low at most of them.

Change of producers or managers, second series started to appear, second became first, first became lost, second now solo. At least be thankfull that there is still a series. That's my viewpoint, probably full of errors and missing most facts. Plus this year I just had other stuff going on so I didn't get to even one race.

the current promoters of SW have been around and doing it for a while as far as i know. also, 15 riders in a race would have a been a big field for the 2012 SW edition. later.
