North American Bicycle Show Detroit 2015?
Another year has passed .
Did anyone go to the North American Bicycle Show 2015 at Cobo Hall in Detroit ?
What did you think?
Did you go previously? Comparisons? Better ,Same,Worse,Worthwhile
Anyone know who puts the show on and what their motives are?
Their "Bike Week" schedule was conspicuously missing a few free Detroit area bicycle rides, one being Critical Mass .
I'm not so sure that they are intent on promoting ALL cycling in the Detroit area.

The show is put on by the guys who run Slow Roll Detroit, Jason Hall and Mike Mackool their motivation is to promote biking in Detroit and living in Detroit. They can no longer cruise under the radar of Detroit city government(rides of 3000 cyclists), so they have to work with the city and they now charge for membership so they can pull permits and satisfy the City of Detroit. They have no control over Critical Mass Detroit that is why they can't promote it. They can only promote and be responsible for that of which they have control over.

Critical mass turnout is fine with or without additonal promotion!

I don't know the organizers personally though, so I won't comment.
In general, while it's really not much money for admission for this event, I'm still not quite sure just what it has to offer.
It would be relatively difficult to implement the overall process of purchasing a bicycle in such a setting (as opposed to driving from store-to-store), because it would require the transportation of bicycles to and from the show (either by the buyer or seller) and for me personally, I'd be buying to use, so I'd want a way to actually ride it on a road and feel how it handles on Michigan's roads.
It does seem like a decent way to pick up accessories in a central location for those who live in Detroit proper or those who want to support more local retail, where there is a lack of bike shops overall (though is slowly changing). However, unless it were something one didn't have to see in-person before buying, they could buy an accessory or other non-bicycle item from an online retailer.
