Chicago question: Where do you ride to measure FTP?

I'm in Evanston. Have a power meter, and I do intervals of various kinds. I mainly ride up to Highland Park on Sheridan, and the route is a little hilly for Chicago (up and down), and it's hard to keep power steady. I'm wondering if there is an ideal (or more ideal) route around here for a 20 minute ride/test. Or am I really overthinking this?

I live in Evanston. It you hit Green Bay Road around 5am, you can own the whole road all the way up Highland Park.

The North Branch Trail is paved and has plenty of stretches that should work. There's a loop around the Skokie Lagoons that would avoid crossings for a few miles. It's popular so expect company on weekends mid-day.

I have a power meter as well, but use strava's training feature which measures ftp over time. My overall average ftp for the year up to this point ended up at 261 watts. Made it up to 290 watt ftp in july.

Use the Velodrome in Northbrook. It's usually open to the public.

Northbrook Park District - Ed Rudolph Velodrome

It's pleasant ride from Evanston.
When I ride my bike I feel free and happy and strong. I'm liberated from the usual nonsense of day to day life. Solid, dependable, silent, my bike is my horse, my fighter jet, my island, my friend. Together we will conquer that hill and thereafter the world.
