quick short of my quick Pac. Coast tour...

started in Yelm, WA. and ended in Sanfran. 15 days, 1000 miles.
used the ACA maps for the most part. stayed in a couple hostels, campgrounds and cheapy hotels.
shortest day was around 40 miles, but i did manage a couple of Centuries which is too much for touring the hilly coast, but the sun would come out late in the day and i was always wanting to see what was coming up next.
i think from where i started in WA. was okay, but not spectacular. unless you're very interested in roadside chainsaw sculpture, angry dogs, and thick evergreens. i've done the san juans further north, however, and they are spectacular as are the cascade mountains.
in Oregon, i loved Astoria, but the route was mainly just busy or uninteresting until around Manzanita. beautiful. and hilly. and logging trucks. still lots of chainsaw art. there are great restaurants and a two bed hostel in Bandon. oregon coastal towns seemed to be either charming/touristy, busy/touristy, or rough/touristy (closer to the Dunes ie. Reedsport. although i had some good pie there).
the redwoods we're beautiful, especially Drury (?)Ln. and Ave of the Giants, BUT otherwise the 101 through there was basically a hwy with semi's and lots of logging trucks. white knuckle up some big hills with no shoulder and a rumble strip through narrow lane road construction. yikes. recommend staying at the Redwood Hostel near the Trees of Mystery.
favorite part was when i finally hit the 1 on the California Coast. beautiful! cute little towns like Westport etc. the wind from the North gave me a great little push (which i needed-so many hills!) most of the rest of the way.
cows on the road. russian forts. mendocino. beautiful towns on the run into the GG Bridge, although i think the ACA maps go out of their way to send you up more hills and a very roundabout way to get you through there when there seemed to be plenty of adjoining bike routes. (the aca maps made a few detours of what didn't seem to be super busy roads to put you onto even quieter but usually much hillier roads)
anyway...a great time and i made a quick short of it if you feel like watching.
