Available in any color you want, as long as you want Celete Blue.
A bike shop could, of course, stock different bike models in a range of colors, but the manufactures tend towards a few trendy colors.
This may be one of the failings of the LBS vending method.
A major distributor could stock a couple of frames in each model, color, and size, then custom assemble bikes to spec. Or a small manufacture can custom build bikes to spec.
Perhaps the internet market will bring more than just bottom dollar price competition.

That is something that I have thought about as well. Eventually someone will employ the "pull system". Where they have one of two of each item ready to ship, and everytime one is "pulled" an automatic order for replacement is generated. Down side would be you would need a supply of unpainted frames, and the other OEM parts. The increase in labor costs could probable be mitigated by assemble just across the border in Mexico. Just the same, offer a half dozen additional colors for an additional $75 for the entire line (i.e. Sirrus, FX etc).
Eventually someone will develop a model such as you indicate. Big brands would be wise to offer something like it now to head off the future competition.

I dont think this has been mentioned: while I myself would have liked more than one color to chose from, I know for my wife the color of her bike, literally, has been a deal breaker when shopping.

Years ago, the owner of a local bike shop told me that the bike manufacturers bought the leftover paint from auto manufacturers. That's why you tend to see bikes in the same boring choice of colors that cars come in: black, grey, white, red, occasionally blue or green.

I was going to try to get powder coating setup...
But there may be more fun colors not using powder.
Should I repaint my Colnago with chameleon paint?

My wife is tall - almost 6 feet. Women's bike frames aren't made for women her height. She always has to buy a man's bike and, as you know, men's bikes aren't offered in many feminine colors. The manufacturers need to get hip to this whole "color of the bike matters" thing!

Yea, my wife is 5'-10" and she's has difficulty in the past finding a "women's" model that fits her. Not only do few manufacturers offer proportional fit for taller ladies, but rare indeed is an LSB who will have the largest in stock.
Right now she is on an "18inch" Neko SL and thats pretty good, she's happy (but I think she could use a little more reach).
