Stock saddles, in my experience - and the experience of others I've spoken with - with Trek FX and drop bar bikes, are unrideable. Best to budget the extra $ to get one that will work for you. The Trek stores I trade at will sell you the bike, and then sell you a new saddle. But if you don't like the one you bought, you can swap it for another at no cost, try it out, and swap yet again and again until your rear end is satisfied. Yet again, you can do some research - online - and find saddles that are well rated for the kind of riding you do, your weight, age, and all that. But whatever you do, don't think that stock saddle will work unless of course, it will.

It's amazing how much money riding a bike is saving. Not just gas of course, but all the other incidentals that amount. Heck, my auto insurance is even "giving" me a $19.03 discount on my next bill because of lower mileage. (Yes, my incurance company is "watching" my mileage....) |
I bought a 2011 7.5 FX from the original owner last summer. He never rode it much. We estimated that it had about 2,000 miles on it. I took it to Florida for the winter and put over 2,100 miles on it. I replaced the cassette and chain right before I left in the spring. This summer, I bought a new road bike, a 2022 Trek Emonda SL 5, and will be taking my old road bike, a 2002 Klein Quantum, to Florida this winter. I'm going to sell the FX when I get down south. It's a real nice bike, but I prefer the road bike speed and riding position much more.

I tried the FX 5 Sport today from a friend, who is now going try use it as a commuter/fitness bike. I've searched the archives and seems anyone who wants a rack, has to fabricate a piece to fit the fender mount hole on the bridge on the bottom side. How safe is that?

Love my FX3
I have 2 favorite bikes and the FX 3 gets ridden a lot of the time. This is my go to when I ride with the local bike club. I have made many improvements as parts have worn out. The cranks were the first to fail. My FX is now a full Ultegra group set, with the standard flat bar setup.

After getting some VERY good advice (thanks again everyone) I ended up with an FX2 Well I just picked up a Trek FX 7.4 to ride down south. REALLY wanted to try out a Fuji (tried to get two of those used) or a Specialized (also tried to buy two of them) or a Cannondale (one try) I ended up with the Trek,. It's different than my FX2 and a bit larger but JUST small enough for me to fit. Just got back from my first 6 miles on it and I'll definitely make more. Trek does indeed make some fine bikes!

Does it seem odd that the FX3 still seems to be an imaginary object? i get supply chain issues, etc.. But it seems according to the Trek Website, there are bikes in my general area for the entire FX line except for the FX3. It seems like it’s been that way for months now. I’m tempted to go up to the FX4 or maybe even 5, but then it’s starting to get into higher cash areas that defeats my wish for a solid, cost effective, all-rounder. I do like the FX2, but just wish for a little bit more. Why is Trek tormenting me like this?

FX 3 also impossible to get here and I was also thinking of taking the big jump to FX sport 4 or 6 , Instead I ended up going for giant fastroad sl 1 , it is 400 euro more than FX 3 but you are getting a much lighter bike with mainly 105 components. The is the giant fastroad sl 2 and 3 which are cheaper as the number goes up the sl 3 being about in line with FX 3 price and components as FX 3 I'd say. the geometry is a little different , mainly slightly longer reach , I feel like Ive got my little more, the main plus I feel is I feel less fatigued over longer distances, the bike feels sportier , the wheel set for me didn't feel great so on advice from others here I'm upgrading them. but the FX 2 is the best value for money all rounder by a mile in my opinion. I just wonder would the FX 3 be enough of an upgrade to scratch that itch for you , I'd seriously recommend trying one out or any potential new purchase tbh . |

I picked up a red '22 FX 2 today; I'm calling it my dad-mobile and can't wait to put some miles on it. I know it's not a true road bike but it feels like a race car compared to my 13 year old full suspension moutain bike with knobbies (the red also helps!). Will be much nicer to pull the kid trailer around the neighborhood.
