Just picked up a new FX S 4 today! I must say, it's quite a step up from my Shift 2. Rode it 22 miles this afternoon and love it. Pics when I get up to 10 posts

Thank you sh00k. I've been keeping an eye on this thread recently and finally decided that the number of fans of the FX line must mean something good. I've always been partial to Trek and this seems to be one of the more versatile bikes they make.

versatile is the best way to describe this bike. And practical. You can use it as a fitness bike, or with a couple accessories, turn it into your grocery getter / kid hauler / errand runner. You made a great choice with the fx 👍

posting my bike once again. I had the fenders and rack installed but they had done quite a bad job on it. I went back and now the fenders look amazing on the bike.
Just to share - the shop had to extend the rear fender mount and add spacers to the chain stay mount. I can provide more details if needed but I’m sure you’re just here for the pics
here is the before picture - new fenders installed but horribly aligned.
And here is the after!

Congaree - congrats!
Did you test ride the FX 3 Disc before purchasing the S4? Was the S4 a lot better?
What do you think of the colour of the S4 frame? (I'm yet to see one in person yet).
cheers

She's a beaut sh00k! I love a well accessorized bicycle and you've got that one loaded out. I've been debating fenders because I suspect the keep the bike so much cleaner, even on dry weather road rides. The only thing holding me back is that I transport my bike in the trunk of my car every weekend to local bike trails and since I have to pull the front wheel every time, I would probably destroy the front fender.

Greetings Agent009 and thank you! I actually did not test drive any other bikes at the shop, just the FX S 4, unfortunately. I had basically decided the FX S 4 was the one I wanted, mostly based on weight and the 2 chain-ring configuration vs the FX3. By the time I got to the shop, I had pretty much made up my mind it was going to be the FX S 4, unless the test drive revealed the bicycle to be uncomfortable to me in some way. I could immediately tell, after the test drive, that the S4 checked all my boxes, so I just bought then and there. As far as the color of the S4 goes, I actually like it. It's doesn't show dirt as well as brighter colors or at least that's my go to excuse for preferring more neutral metallic colors on bicycles and cars. Having said that, I was not put off at all by the color of the FX3...very eye-catching shade of red.

They're the Bontrager bar ends, had to get the adapter too, to make it work. Gives me that other position for my hands and I like it, think it looks good as well. Sometimes would like something more Like the Ergon 5 but their ISO handle bars make it hard to swap grips.

Anybody know if there is an issue putting some grease or oil on the front thru axle and thru axle thread? Just curious, cuz when I removed my front wheel (which I do basically every time I ride, for transport), I noticed mine is dry. Maybe there is a reason, like the grease might have a bad reaction with the carbon fork?
[UPDATE] - To answer my own question for anybody who's ever wondered about this...I contacted Trek Tech Support via chat (I should have thought of that before posting this here) and they said that greasing the thru axle is not recommended. The said it if does start binding or seizing up, just take it into the local store to have it looked at.

Thanks congaree! Enjoy your purchase!
I will hopefully get a chance to test both bikes next weekend. Will let you know which one I choose.
cheers

look ok at this bike in the “gloss sunburst” color. The higher end fx’s need to come in something this fancy

OK, just realized I am at 10, so I better get this out of the way before somebody thinks I 'm lying:
2019 FX S 4 at the end of the trail in Travellers Rest.

I believe you Congaree, the S 4 would be my pick today.
Shook, I looked for that gray 7.4 but at year end couldn't find one in my size so got a white 7.4 like Jarrettein's. Your's looks handsome with the fenders properly installed. I'm surprised a shop would have sent it out with the first version, the type of work that has resulted in me never returning to a bike shop once I get the bike out of their hands.

Finch! Nice to see you again.
The bike is a Trek Domane SLR 6. i found it on a r-e-d-d-i-t thread that i cant link here. but you can google "nbd trek domane slr 6 with fulcrum racing zero." IIRC, the bike's MSRP was either $5,500 or $6,500. I can't remember but still really pricey.
And the suggestion about Project One - no way in hell am I paying MSRP for a bike just for the color. I'll save thousands if I simply get the bike painted or wrapped. I can afford a pricey bike but i have owned 6-7 trek's in recent years and only paid full price for my first one (trek fx 7.2) before I wised up and realized I should be haggling with dealers . Since then I haven't paid MSRP and the best deal i got was on a my 16-pound emonda sl6. Sticker price was $3,400 and I paid a fraction of that. Bike shop margins are in upwards of 70% on some of these bikes! I have seen dealer cost spreadsheets and they're making a killing from people paying msrp on bikes.
since we are on the subject, click here and look at the gloss sun burst color! WOW! https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/b...Code=red_white
I don't think you should have to be robbed in order to get your bike in a nice color.
