I installed a hitch on my 2004 Accord and fitted a 2-bike carrier. This is the fastest and most secure set-up as far as I'm concerned. Five minutes to put the rack on the car and another five for the bike.

My wife drives a 03 Accord and opening with the seat folded is tiny. My bike fits in the back of civic better than the Accord.

I still say, for a single bike, inside is the safest.
