22.5" or 25" frame

Hi all, need some help settling something. I've been trying to settle between a Trek 7.3 FX or a Specialized Sirrus Sport Disc. The one thing that is holding me back from riding a bike right now is the frame size. I'm 6'5" with a 34" inseam (pants size, I can get a more precise measurement later today) and weigh about 260 right now.

I went and test ride the Sirrus in a L frame and loved it but obviously needed a bigger size, the LBS just didn't have it. I arranged for them to transfer a XXL Trek FX (Specialized doesn't make XXL) to the shop for me to try out and I loved the way it felt. The size and fit felt great on a much larger frame. I was ready to purchase the 7.3 right there, but we found out that there weren't any at the LBS warehouse nor at Trek's warehouse left (in matte black, plenty in bright green) and was told if I want the larger bike I either have to settle for the 7.2 FX they had for me to ride or wait until the 2016's were released.

I have been wondering though, if it would be a smart move to go for the Specialized in the 22.5" XL frame. I loved the looks of this bike (wish it had internal cables) and would buy it in a heartbeat if they had a XXL, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Do the extra 2.5"'s make that much more of a difference? Or should I just hold my horses and wait until Trek announced their 2016's?

Its more complicated than a 2.5 inch frame difference. Specialized bikes generally feel larger to me for the same frame size. For example, a small specialized feels the same as a medium Trek to me. So there may not be as much difference between a XXL Trek and a XL specialized than you think. You may want to go to the bike web sites and compare geometries.

I'd try an XL specialized in any of the Sirrus models to get a feel for the frame. Otherwise I'd wait for something that fits well..

Sounds good. I'm going to try to find a shop that carries a Sirrus in an XL frame but so far nobody has one. One store does but its about 1.5 hours away

I'm 6'1" and just bought a Sirrus Comp Disc in an XL. The L felt too small. I'd be worried the XL Specialized will be too small for someone as tall as you.

In contrast, the L (22.5) Trek FX fit fine and the XL (25) was too big.
