Trek FX 7.7 vs Specialized Sirrus Expert Carbon Disk
Hi, I'm new to the forum and was hoping to get some advice. I'm looking to purchase a hybrid bike to use in South Florida for exercise. My budget is approximately $2000. I"ll be riding 20 miles at a time, 2-3 days a week. I've been to many bike dealers and they have almost no inventory or demos of any of the better hybrids. I've been told that more expensive hybrid bikes don't sell well in my area so they don't keep them in stock. Since I can't try a demo, which I know is a bad idea, I'm willing to gamble and order either the 2015 Trek FX 7.7 or the 2015 Specialized sirrus expert carbon disk.I would really appreciate it if anyone would give me your input and tell me the differences in the bikes. Also, does anyone know anything about the 2016 models yet? Thanks so much!

I had a Trek and now have a Specialized, the model you are looking at. I did not bond with the Trek, and I really cannot give you any good reason why. The Spesh is a bike I am setting up for commuting, and I have made extensive modifications to it. I liked the Sirrus from the first ride, and it is only getting better, for me, via mods. The differences are either obvious stuff you can read on the two websites, like components, or the not so obvious, like how it fits you. If there is any way you can drive to a dealer that has them, even if a long drive, it will be worth it.

It is a seriously bad idea to buy a bike for $2,000 that you haven't ridden, or if you haven't ridden something very, very close in geometry.
With Specialized, the frames on the lower spec model are the same geometry, so by riding one of them, you at least get a feel for the model family, but the Trek 7.7FX is truly unique in the Trek line up as it shares nothing with the rest of the FX family and whilst its frame comes from a 400series Domane, it has a flat bar.
Perhaps you could go test ride someone selling a recent second hand Trek 7.7FX.

I'm in Boca Raton, Florida. Every bike shop I have called has either said they don't have a demo or they don't keep those bikes in stock. Anyone you know that has it in West Palm Beach?

Hi, I finally found a shop far away that had a Specialized sirrus expert carbon disk to demo. I loved the bike but since I am a novice, I really don't have anything to compare it to. I still can't find a Trek FX 7.7 to demo. I was wondering if anyone can give me any input on the following:
1.The owner of the shop said I was between a medium and large frame and he watched me ride and sai I can go either way. They both felt equally comfortable to me, so I'm not sure which to purchase. Any comments?
2. The shop tod me the price of the 2016 was being reduced by $100-$200 but wasn't sure why. Does anyone have any info.
3. Are there any general differences (ie. One is designed more as a road bike) between the Trek 7.7 and the Specialized Sirrus Expert Carbon Disk.
Thanks for any input, and I'm really enjoying this forum!
