Crossrip vs FX

Are there any real benefits to the Crossrip besides being a drop bar? Is there an decrease in weight with the Crossrip vs the FX line (7.4 or better)?

I realize that other manufacturers also make dropbar hyrbrids but to make it easier I am narrowing the topic to Trek's offerings.

Thanks!

Two slightly different purposes:

Crossrip - drop bar "gravel grinder". Can take wider tires in the back for better traction/suspension on gravel roads, bumpier roads ( and there's no reason you can't throw a thinner tire on as well for road riding)

FX - flat bar road bike .

Depends on your requirements. If road, more "accurate" comparison is FX/Madone (Endurance frame so more "upright" ) , if dirt/trails/rough roads Crossrip/DS .

VERY generic descriptions :)

Its marketing.

My GT Eightball can take 40 C tires and is basically a flat bar road bike.

One can put on multi-use tires for rails to trails riding.

I would say you could do the same with the Trek FX/Allant but I wouldn't ride it in technical singletrack.

One wouldn't do that with a drop bar gravel road/adventure bike as well.

Other difference is the CrossRip has disc brakes and apparently the FX series no longer does.

The Trek Allant series is the Fx with disc brakes. Both fax and Crossrip can accommodate a variety of tire sizes and types. The biggest difference is the handlebar. Which kind of handlebar are you most comfortable with? How aggressive a rider are you?

Yup. It depends on how you like to ride. Want to ride with drop bars? Get the Crossrip. Want to ride with flat bars? Get the Allant. As the poster said, they will take a variety of tires so you can fine-tune the bike to the riding you're going to do.
