Baseline Sirrus question
 

Hello,

I am new to the forum. Just had ACL surgery 3 months ago and my 5 year old Crosstrail was stolen. It was a base model and I used it rarely but planned on riding as therapy for my knee. Would a base model Sirrus be a good replacement? I am not a huge bike rider as the crosstrail got minimal use but planned on riding a ton as a chance to rehab. Should I save up more money to get an upgraded Sirrus? I'm 42 years old on Monday married with three little boys one two months old. We are into boating and beaching mostly as a family and music I play accoustic guitar. The kids play multiple sports and time is simply not there as a single income dad.If you know about ACL therapy is a key component to getting better. We live by the shoreline and we have a wonderful bike route that will be my way of getting on the bike and enjoying the scenery while exercising the knee. I especially love the higher end Sirrus but I just can't do it right now. 2016 base model black and white is a clean look that I can live with for now. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a base model Sirrus (2013) and I don't see the big deal on the higher end models unless you
spend another $350 to get the Elite.
I replaced the tires with Continental Touring (reflective sidewalls) and it made a big difference. Also replaced the seat
with a Serfas RX (ooooo what a difference).
Added a Topeak rack with a Topeak trunk bag, lights and a bell. Its a complete package.

I think a baseline Sirius will be just fine. I have the sport disc because it fit me and I love the disc brakes. Bought my step daughter the base sirrus. She loves it. Any sirrus will be good.

I recently got a 2015 base Sirrus model and it's an awesome ride. I did took out the Sirrus Sport and Sirrus Elite for a spin, but for me the value for money came from the base model, more so since it was coming at a flat 20% discount :).

Go ahead and make the plunge, you won't regret it!

I love my Sirrus Sport. I've since upgraded the components, but it's my go too for short jaunts and cruising around with the family. Now that I've dropped the weight and improved physically I ride my Allez on longer rides, but the Sirrus Sport is what got me back in shape.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go with the base model Sirrus. It pretty much has all you need. Light weight frame, 3 x 8 drivetrain, simple but inexpensive V brakes, steel fork.

The higher level Sirrus models might be a little lighter or have features like carbon fork, road components, or hydraulic disc brakes, but frankly, the base model might be all you need for quite a few years (unless you want to do more fast club riding, much longer rides, or multi day tours in which case you might want a true road bike). Another bike at the $500 price point is the Jamis Coda Sport, which has a cro moly steel frame rather than the Aluminum on the Specialized. Not saying one is better than the other but just putting it out there to consider.

The base model is a nice bike! If you find yourself doing lots of miles, and lots of time on the bike, save your pennies for a disc brake, carbon fork model..... The base model will last a long time, while you plan your next move. My Sirrus, though older, has a carbon fork, and it is a huge difference in comfort.

Picked up a used Women's Sirrus for my daughter. Had some parts swapped out but I do like the bike. Quality is exceptional, good basic components and remember you can swap out parts with better quality parts later one.
