Looking to improve grips

Hello-

Love my hybrid, but in getting into much longer rides than I'm used to (I'm starting to get into 25-30 mile treks as opposed to 10 mile ones, which I had considered insane!) I've realized that my hands get sore on the stock grips. I'm looking to upgrade by adding some bar ends.

These are what I'm looking at-

Long bar ends that clamp on

Built in bar ends on a grip, like these Ergon Gp5s.

My questions include which is easier to install and which is going to work better. The Ergon grips are much more expensive but seem easy to install. The long clamp on ends are cheaper and give more to grab onto, but I'm not sure what I would do for installation- I know I have to pry off the stock grips but am I going to need to get some handlebar tape? Where do I place them, in the middle or on the ends? What about the shifters, do those need to be adjusted as well?

The bike is a Giant Escape 2 if it helps.

Thanks,

Mike

Very good question. I'm interested in the GP5s or going bar ends too. On the GP5 sizing what is a good guide? I wear a cadet medium golf glove if that matters.

I have Ergon grips on my Escape and love them. One of the benefits is that you can tighten them once you get them where they are comfortable. As a result, they don't slide around.
