My new Giant Escape 2!

I just got my new 2017 Giant Escape 2 yesterday, AKA the Batcycle. It's a very dark Navy blue, looks almost black. Now with my Topeak handlebar bag I have no place for front lights. I have the Topeak bar extender and tried to mount the lights so they go under the bag which was mounted on the stem but the cables got in the way. Anyone have any suggestions?

Isn't the Topeak extender tall enough to have your lights be above your handlebar bag?

You may need to angle the handlebar bag quick release thingee on your handlebars down a bit.

No, it's not tall enough and the angle of the bag has to be at that angle because the bag levels out when weight is applied.

Okay, what about placing your light on your handlebars just after the insides of one of your handgrips, maybe using the Topeak Extender so that the light doesn't prevent you from getting to your gears?

I would imagine you would have clear line of sight at that point, not obscured by your handlebar bag

Thank you! It just fit for one of my lights, it doesn't fit my spotlight as that has a beefier clamp but at least I have my blinky for now. Thanks again.

Alot of bags on your bike. Do you take it off when you go riding for many miles at the trails?

I don't ride any trails, I'm a commuter and my bike is my only vehicle. Also, this is a road bike. Of course if I just ride for excercise then yes I would take the bags off.

Get rid of the bags and get paniers

Just curious how you like this bike after about a month. I was looking at one today. I love the price. I'm basically thinking for family rides, hauling the kids in the trailer and tossing a milk crate on the back for when I need to run down to the store for a few things, or fishing gear to get me down to the beach.

My first post on the forums...I just picked one of these up today.

Maiden voyage didn't go so good. It kept shifting or trying to shift on it's own. Seemed to only be an issue when I had it on the big sprocket on the crank. Have to take it back in to have it tweaked. Other than that I like it.

I looked at a Trek FX2 and a Specialized Sirrus as well. Part of me wishes I went back to the other shop, and got the Trek. more precisely called them and told them to get one in for me. The one 20" they had there was sold, but I liked it. The price was right on the Escape 2 though. The FX2 wasn't that much more, and from what I read may have been a better value. They all seem to be about the same bike though. Liked the lime yellow color of the Escape, it rode nice, and I put what I was saving toward a helmet.

Now hopefully I get my moneys worth out of it. Bought it as a more enjoyable way to do some cardio. Has to be more interesting than a half an hour on an eliptical.
