Trek Verve 2 on gravel?

Hello,

I'm just curious what others might think of the possibility. I bought a Trek Verve 2 yesterday and I love it, lots. I wanted a bike with a more upright handle and slightly forward pedals (although they don't seem to be as forward as I thought )

Anyway, I just wanted to know the possibility of riding it on gravel trails. I've seen other people ride what look like hybrids on them but I didn't know if there was a reason it would not be recommended. Or not be recommended for someone who is a heavy rider.

Thanks.

You've got 35mm wide tires, should be fine on gravel.

The trail you're talking about is more like a rail trail? If it's mountain bike trail, you might want a different bike.

No, definitely not a mountain bike trail. They are wide, relatively flat trails, no tree roots, no dips, etc.

This isn't my picture but this a representative picture of one of the trails

Should be perfect for casual gravel rides. If it feels a bit skittish reduce tire pressure about 5-10 psi. I ride my comfort hybrid on similar local gravel trails and even off road stuff that can barely be described as trails. Feels very secure for my casual riding style.

Michelin suggests 75 psi for my weight but I find the bike handles best on combined gravel and pavement at 60-65 psi for the rear tire and 50-55 on the front. It's much more secure feeling on large chunky gravel (like the stuff found around railroad tracks) and glancing against sidewalk ledges on the local multi-use path, or road ruts running parallel with the wheels. No problems over the past year. Any slight risk of pinch flats on the front are minimized by the spring suspension fork, which absorbs some of the impact. I've never bottomed out the forks so it's fine for my riding style.

You'll be fine with the Verve on that. I do worse ( softer, potholier, corregateder) than that on my road bike with 25mm road tires.

Enjoy!
