That position can be achieved with the flat bar bike.
Yea for a couple miles, I wouldn't ride that way for long. They're different. Look up, grab wind, look down, break wind. To suggest a hybrid upright bike is going to be as fast as a road bike is just not a comparison worth making, the question is what kind of bike do you want to ride.

Some do, others say that it's pointless on a hybrid or flat bar bike. Some people recommend bullhorns with similar effect. I am convinced that you can achieve a similar position and speeds on a hybrid - because I've seen the Strava of people who claim to have done that, and I've seen guys riding that way. How it feels, and how it handles is a different question - I am just cautioning against more dogmatic opinions.

I don't recommend anything that would have you riding with your head down and hands away from the brakes if the bike is to be ridden in traffic or on MUP's.

wtf are you talking about? It's about head up or head down, really not so complicated. It's a bike in the wind.

The Sirrus is the flat bar version of the Roubaix and designed around an endurance road bike geometry.

Difference is its set up with flat bars rather than with drop bars. One would be hard pressed to tell the difference on the road.

I have a Sirrus Sport Disc. Bought last year to get back into riding. (old & fat) I too have fell in love with cycling. I am averaging close to 100mi a week on it. It is great for commuting and on the greenway trails.

But like you I've started riding 25+ mi long rides. And the hand position on a flat bar bike puts my elbows out as I try to get lower when riding fast or into the wind. I have thought about adding bar ends like the Sirrus Carbon model comes with, thinking that will put my hand/elbows more tucked in.

Long story short. I have decided to keep the Sirrus for my commuting, family, MUP rider. And looking at getting a decent road bike for my longer rides.

Fancy tires and bend over uncomfortably low , work hard, And you are faster,

Air resistance .. It goes up 4x as speed goes up just 2x.

Interesting....yeah it sounds like the overwhelming advice is to get out of the way of that air resistance.
