Please recommend new hybrid bike
Hi all,
So far I have been using MTB, but as I mostly commute in the city enviroment (and some forest road) I thought I give will give a try to hybrid.
My budget is up to 700 euro.
What do you think of this bike? - Canyon COMMUTER 3.0
Seems very light and with good components.
or
Trek DC 1?
or somehting else?
Br,
Rivo

When I started riding in civilization, I got the trek fx. It served me well up until it fell apart. By the time that happens you ll be wanting a legit road bike tho

Not with the Canyon, its sold only online and I cannot find too many reviews for it, that makes me suspicious.
The only problem with the Trek DS1 is that it weighs too much. Ideal it would be around 11-12KG and front suspension is probably not needed.

Another good option to consider if you want a more city-oriented but light-weight bike without front suspension is the Giant Escape. The Escape 1 Disc is the top of the line and would be in your budget range, but it's hard to tell exactly which markets it's available in. You didn't mention where you are, but since you said your budget was 700 Euros, I'm assuming in the EU... It is sold in the USA, but not in Canada. It looks like it is NOT available in Denmark, but IS in France... You'll have to look in your region, for some unknown reason Giant likes to play where's Waldo with their regional bike offerings instead of more rationally making everything available everywhere.
And if not the Escape, then the Giant Rapid seems to be available in a lot of the EU markets, that is another good option for a bike somewhere in between the Escape and the Toughroad in terms of robustness, but with similar geometry and styling.
Cheers

I have been conducting a few experimental rides using different bikes, inc mtb's and hybrid/comfort bikes on the same 1 hour route that starts right from my front door.
Imagine my surprise when (except for the road bike) I discovered about a 5 minute difference over a 1 hour course, with about 800ft of climbing. The (Walmart GS29) mtb has 29x2.125 knobby tires, my Giant Cypress DX Hybrid 700x32 tires and the assorted other bikes have mostly 26" tires.
Not surprisingly, the Giant was the fastest and the Walmart bike the slowest (and heaviest). Even my old Trek Antelope 800 mtb was almost as fast as the Giant.
I feel that I gave equal effort with each bike with some seeming noticeably harder to ride fast but Strava showed them faster than they felt.
BTW, my Cannondale SuperSix was almost 15 minutes faster, doing the route in about 45 minutes.

Looks like you're an MTB guy like me. Try the Giant Toughroad.
I've done heaps of MTBing back in NZ then moved here in Melbourne and did 4 months of commuting for work with the same MTB bike until a car hit me and wreck that bike. Then bought the Giant Cross City 0 (or Escape in US, got stolen after 3 days ). I the. Bought the Toughroad and 1 year later, I'm loving it more and more.
It is very versatile. Just swap the tyres around, install/uninstall racks & mudguards and you have an all-around bike.
City Commute Rides? Check
Gravel/Adventure Rides? Check
Road Rides requiring light and sleek bikes? Check, just strip it down.
Touring Rides? Check. You got front racks and rear racks.
MTB Rides especially CrossCountry? (Less than 1m drops) Check. Strip it down and put those MTB tyres on, it got heaps of clearance
BMX Pump tracks? Check
You won't regret it.

Thank you for all the replies!
I'm from Estonia and unfortunately Giant is not sold here, but I agree it seems very nice.
I also found one more option - Cube SL Road. also very light, just 11,5 kg.
Just it is equipped with entry level derailleurs - Shimano Claris.

Not sure where you are getting the Cube SL Road from and how much, but I just looked it up on ChainReaction and it clocks in at $999 CDN, which to me seems expensive/overpriced for what it has. For the level of components, it seems equivalent to the bottom end of the Giant Rapid line (Rapid 3) which is $849 CDN, or $150 lower priced.
Not that we should buy solely based on price, but all other things being equal (which in this case it seems to be), then it makes a difference to me.
Cheers

Have you considered Specialized?
https://www.specialized.com/ee/en/men/bikes/fitness
The prices on that site are totally screwed up but they might have an option for you (Sirrus, Crosstrail, Crossroads).

Oh, didn't know that. BTW the MTB that I was using for commute for 4 months is a 2006 GT Avalanche Pro. I just swapped the tyres around and just lock or limit compression in the fork when commuting. Which MTB do you have btw?

Call it a hybrid, or a flat bar road bike, or a fitness bike, or a rec bike, or whatever, my main ride is a Specialized Sirrus Carbon Comp (which, contrary to what some say, IS legit. ) and couldn't be happier. I've had it about a year with no issues whatsoever.
It comes in at about 23 lbs and is hella stout. The rims will accept any tire from 23 to 32. I found 28's to be comfy but not too cushy. That "New price tag smell" is up there but they are available used at very reasonable rate.
Good luck and strong tail winds.

This Priority is $899 usd about 830 euros. I highly recommend it they ride great. It has a belt so no worries on lubing it or really worrying about maintenance. It is an aluminum frame, has fenders and has a pretty nice IGH with the NuVinci hub. All and all it is hard to find a bike with this many features for the price point. Food for thought.
