Thoughts on this color bike? Is it more of a girls color?

How does asking the opinion on a bike color make me 10 years old?

http://standishcycles.com/wp-content...7_B_2_DS_3.jpg I bought a new bike this week. My choices were narrowed down to a Giant Roam 1 and a Trek DS 3. I don't like the Trek black, but I found the Waterloo Blue to be slightly off putting. I wouldn't call it a girls only color, to me it looks baby blue. Not very attractive. But I thought that if I got the bike, I'd get used to it. I ended up buying the Roam 1. The main reasons were cost and component quality versus the DS 3. Color was a reason, but it was the smallest part. If I had an infinite palette to chose from the Charcoal with Lime Green accents of the Roam 1 is not what I would chose. But I do like the look of the Charcoal. It's a gray or almost a dark silver that doesn't look half bad. Purely my personal opinion, but I think it looks a lot better than Trek's Waterloo Blue. |
I have a Waterloo blue DS3 and it looks great in the sun. Nice metallic shimmer. But I understand young Millennials have alot of things to question about themselves theses days it seems. Hate for someone to assume your gender based on the shade of blue.

A study was done - you are more apt to ride a bike if you love the color.
It's top 2 reasons people buy a bike. That said ; this color is badass. |
I like the color. I don't think it's a girls color. I just ordered the women's version in California sky blue which is a much more feminine color.
I don't think it's silly to worry about color. I wouldn't buy a car in a color I didn't like. I actually almost bought the Neko 1 because I liked the color better and it was closer to my budget. |

This is the California sky blue. Now to buy the matching bottle rack or go with something neutral like black. |
I agree...color makes a huge difference. I want to love looking at my bike. And I want to look good on it, too. :)
I think the Trek DS is a gender-neutral color, whereas the WS Trek posted after it is more of a gender-specific color. I like them both. When I bought my Surly LHT, I didn't like 2009's color choices, so I had the bike shop switch all the components to a 2008 blue frame they had left over. So for a lot of us, color is important! |

No, not necessarily, but the fact that you asked if it was a girl's colour, and that you asked for an opinion on said colour tells me that you either have some insecurities about what others might think if you rode a bike with a colour that may me considered a girls' colour, or that you're very young and naive, or that you're all three.:D
 No offence taken. Your statement reveals more about you than me.:) |

When you drop a lot of cash on a bike, I don't think it is at all unreasonable to expect it to look great, color included.

I'm curious how the Roam 1 and DS 4 compare. |

How you liking the Roam 1 so far?
Did you consider the Trek DS 4 at all? I'm curious how the Roam 1 and DS 4 compare. I've had only one disappointment with the Roam. I'm short, at 5' 6", so I had to buy a size small frame. On my Roam, there is only one set of water bottle attachment lugs, not two sets as pictured on the Giant website. I'd guess that this is a common feature of small size frames. I did not consider the Trek DS 4. The DS 4 is no doubt excellent. But it is priced well above what I'm willing to spend (I got my Roam 1 for $700). The retail price of DS 4 is $1,150 versus $820 retail for the Roam 1. A $330 difference, the DS 4 is 40% higher than the Roam 1. At that price point, of course the DS 4 is a lot better than the Roam 1. For a fair comparison, you'd compare the retail prices of the $880 DS 3 to the $820 Roam 1. The Roam 1 is $60 cheaper but still has substantially better drive components. The DS 3 does have a few features that the Roam 1 lacks. Biggest by far is the tubeless ready rims. Two others are in frame cable routing, and remote (handlebar) control of the suspension fork lock out. |
