Can I use road shoes and cleats with Shimano PD-T780 pedals?

I want to use my road bike not only for longer rides clipped in with road shoes and cleats, but also for riding around town with normal shoes/sneakers.

After some research, it seems that Shimano PD-T780 pedals seem to be a pretty good SPD / Flat combo pedal.

But it is principally a MTB pedal and I want to make sure that I can also use road shoes and cleats with the Shimano PD-T780 pedals.

If anyone things that there is a better solution than the Shimano PD-T780 pedals, please let me know.

@FWH123 Yes. You can use those pedals with your normal shoes or cleats. You can also search for "SPD/flat" or "campus pedals" or "combination pedals". They're pretty common. I am not a fan of "combo" things.

Maybe.

S uses two different cleat systems for road, the traditional 3 bolt spd sl and the mtb derived two bolt spd.

Check to make sure that your road shoes have the proper bolt pattern, not all have 2 bolt

Not sure about the cleats but PD-T8000 replaces PD-T780 so you may wish to consider the later model - they have better grip on the flat side.

Now these are perfect.
I've been considering buying the 780s and doing something like this to the platform side myself. I guess Shimano has listened to people this time.
