If you want disc brakes then get the 2018 model FX 3, but if you wanted rim brakes, then I think the 2017 model is a better buy. I think the 2016 7.4FX which got replaced by the 2017 FX 3, is a better buy in a rim brake model.

Looks like all 2018 FX models (FX1, FX2) moved to alpha gold frame from silver...

I just comparison shopped the 2017 FX3 versus the 2018 FX3, and I only considered the rim brake models. The only differences I could see were that 2017 model has internal cable routing, with 2018 going back to external cables, and 2018 has a matte paint scheme, while 2017 is glossy.

I liked the look of the paint on the 2018, but I was able to get my LBS to knock off $75 on the 2017 and I do like the cleaner look with internal cables. Have only had it 2 weeks, but I've been really happy so far.

Just bought the FX7.2 a few weeks back. Most are significantly discounted (Got mine at 390). I think at that price the 2017 makes sense.
