Does this used Specialized Globe look ok?
I read the rules and I think I'm fine posting this craigslist listing. Please delete if not.
This is a used Specialized Globe. The owner works at a bike shop (I've talked to him). Any thoughts on this bike?
https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/b...297476794.html
p.s I started a thread about the general value vs risk of buying used. I originally posted this in that thread but figured it was more appropriate to start a new one. If Im wrong please move.

Other than the cosmetic issues it looks fine to me. I'd offer a bit less and see what price you can settle on. Have you ridden the bike? If not, I'd do so before even making an offer. Riding it should help you decide.

Check to be sure it's not one of the 2008-2009 Globe models subject to recall for fork replacement. If it's a later model, or the fork has already been replaced, no problems.
And be sure it fits. If I'm recalling correctly a size 49 frame would be for someone under 5'10". I'm 5'11" with disproportionately longer arms, and my medium Globe frame is slightly small for me with the stock riser bar. Swapping to a flat bar improved the reach and pedaling efficiency, so it wasn't a serious misfit.
Looks like a good bike, a sporty variation of my older Globe Carmel -- mostly the same basic components. Especially if the seller is a mechanic and can vouch for the condition of the hubs, bottom bracket and headset.
My older Globe Carmel has that same riser bar. I liked the bar so well, despite not quite fitting the Globe for me, I swapped it over to my Univega for about a year while I was having neck problems. It was more comfortable than the flat bar but still reasonably efficient. I finally swapped the Univega back to a flat bar this summer, but I'm thinking of keep the riser bar in the closet in case the neck problems flare up again.

Am I the only one who's laughing about these two threads being next to each other in the thread list?
First there is a thread about a Specialized Globe being lost when a trunk rack failed on the highway
https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bic...thing-new.html
and now there is a thread about a slight used Specialized Globe with some light scuffing on Craigslist....
It's the little things in life that make me smile.

It looks OK, and (Performance probably where he works in Naperville is a good shop). Would probably be a good buy, coming from a bike mechanic. I'd offer 150 CASH and see where it goes.

I once got a big red cooler which was in the middle of the road & obviously "fell off the back of a truck" which is old time lingo for gangs hijacking trucks & stealing their loads to sell them on the black market for cheap

When I lived in England the phrase was "fell off the back of a lorry". Just did a bit of googling and it indicated that the first usage probably was in England in the Times of London. Surprisingly they said it was only in 1968 when the phrase was first used??
