Giant Toughroad frame creaking issue solved

I heard it here I heard it there, that bloody creaking was everywhere.

There are 3 main points of contact, the forks into the headset, the crank into the bottom bracket and the seat post into the seat tube. I redid the forks bearings with silicone grease and was looking at doing the crank when I thought I'd try the seat post and clamp first as it was easier. I used lots of molybdenum grease all over the 3 clamp pieced and inner seat tube and Bingo, the creak has vanished. Be careful with that clamp though, it can fall down into the bottom of the tube if you're not careful and may get lodged there.

Yea I always grease the rails on my saddle. Last 2 bikes had a creaking sound.

How do you like your toughroad? Can you give a a short review? Likes and dislikes? This bike seems to be very popular in Australia.

There isn't much to dislike. I have the slr-1, Its fast, confident, I had to change the CF (plastic) seatpost for the aluminium one that comes with the slr-2 due to it flexing at the height I set it. The 2x gearing is great, much more practical for a road bike, which is what I use it for than the 3x setup. The wide tires roll very well at full inflation and the disc breaks are a welcome change. In a year I haven't had any issues other than an alignment one I caused by tinkering with them.

I think the handle bars are useless unless you are riding single track, I swapped them out straight away for a much shorter straight bar and advise anyone to do this if they are riding mostly hardtop road. They are exactly the same as the ones on all the MTB bikes which should tell you all you need to know. SRAM gears are very positive though I would have preferred Shimano. All in all it's a very good road bike if you're after exercise and don't want to go everywhere at 40 MPH.

Thanks coominya- good review, just what I wanted to hear. I can see this bike on my horizon in the future!

Stem clamp, seat post and pedals...first 3 items I always check first before crank or headset.
