Specialized Sirrus Elite Alloy vs Crossroads Sport

I currently have a Crossroads Sport Step-through. I bike for recreation and fitness, with a fair amount of off pavement riding - nothing extreme - multi-use dirt/gravel trails and rock roads. The Crossroads has been great for both uses, except I hate the rim/caliper brakes. Going off-road, the rims and brake pads get dirty, making braking poor and requiring frequent cleaning for them to work well. I'm wanting a similar bike - hybrid, mostly upright riding position, suitable for both road and off-road riding. Am I wrong to think I will be happier with disc brakes? My son suggested upgrading the stock brake pads to something better.

Another question I have is whether the Sirrus is suitable for trail riding. Specifically I am looking at the Sirrus Elite Alloy in a women's drop frame. I struggle with shifting the triple chain ring on my current bike, so think the 2x10 gearing would be better?

My LBS also suggested the Roll Comp X1, but I feel it is too much of a comfort bike. I think what I want is a hybrid/fitness with off-road suitability.

Thanks,

Maybe you are looking for a Giant Toughroad or Anyroad?

I looked at these and am intrigued with the Toughroad SLR2. I like the gearing better than the Sirrus Elite, but 700x50 tires is a bit more than I think I want - more of an off-road bike than on-road fitness bike that can handle gravel roads and hard dirt trails. Put that gearing: 11x36 10-speed with 28x42 crankset on the Sirrus frame with a 32-35mm tire and I'd be ecstatic - I think!!

Thanks for the info.
