Total beginner - I have an opportunity to buy this bike
Hi there. I am new here and I do not bicycle much at all to be honest.
But... I have a chance to buy a bike from my work that looks enticing:
Fuji Absolute 1.0
My plan is to have it as a commute bike to work, buy maybe it will spark some kind of interest in the sport also, along the way?
Does anyone have any experience with this bike?
Condition looks as good as new.
My coworkers do not ask much for it because they found it and turned it in to the police, no one claimed it.
I believe I can get it for 50 USD.

For $50 I’d buy it even if it doesn’t fit, from the looks of it, it’s a nice bike. Though I would check to see how long that seat post is, it looks awfully high. You could always flip it for $100 and buy something that suits your needs.

don't know the bike size but I'll bet it's close to perfect for you. pump up those tires & give it a whirl. after you ride it straighten those fenders out will ya? ;-)
if I were to estimate about sizing for you & this bike ...:
if it's a 15" it's too small for you, that's the size my 5' wife rides. if it's a 17" that would be good for you
the bike also comes in 19" & 21" & my guess is those would be larger than ideal for you (but the 19" might be doable)
I'll bet it's a 17". measure it from the middle of the crank/bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube (not seat post) measurement A in this diagram
if it's a 15" I'd pass on it

I´m not sure I understand, are you saying the seat post isn´t adjustable? I didnt look... But sure it´s just set on that high position from the previous owner.

Buy it.
Don't think. Just hand cash over.
$50 is a steal. Like others said, if nothing else, put it on Craigslist for $100 if you don't like riding it after a couple days.

That's an absolute no-brainer for 50 bucks. If you don't like it or if it doesn't fit, you can sell it. That's easily a $250 bike in most markets.

For $50 just take the punt and see how you get on with it... if it doesn't work out i'm sure someone will take it off your hands for the same

Don't let that scare you. I had to do it once. Just buy a cheap hacksaw at Harbor Tools and a nice carbide blade. It took me about 20 minutes and 2 blades, but I got it off.

My biggest concern was the size, as that looks like a very small bike. But it seems you are on the smaller size your self. At any rate, it’s a no brainer to buy the bike.
I’d use a cut off wheel on the lock. If you don’t already have one, an angle grinder can be bought new for as low as $15. It will take the work out of the lock and cutting down the seat post. From the looks of it, thatseat post is way too long. I’d bet you could cut 150 mm off it to start, and it still might bottom out in the frame. I can’t help but wonder where one would get a seat post that long.
Hope you get it, good luck!

I would definitely buy it. Drop the seatpost to a normal height - if it's too long to slide in (looks like it's pretty close), go buy a shorter one.
Angle grinder on the lock, if you have one available. Or get a big pair of bolt cutters, lay the bike down, and leverage the hell out of the cutters.
