rough trails

any of yoos ride any rough trailz? :D anybody pushing the envelope? I kinda maxed out mine so I got a used 29er but now it's kinda overkill on most trails. maybe I just need to push harder, meaning look for easy mountain bike trails

I sometimes ride trails that are rough enough that I decided to get a mountain bike. Most of my riding is off the road, but it's gravel or limestone, etc (as depicted below). But then I started doing some single track, and I didn't want it to beat up the NEX fork on my Roam too much. So I bought a 27.5" mountain bike for that. My Roam is used for general riding and family rides, and it has the rack, so I can put my tools and panniers on it and such. My mountain bike is used mostly for single track, but my daughter likes to ride it when we go riding together off road, even when it's not "rough". It has 27.5x2.1" Vittoria Mezcal G+ TNT tires on it that are super comfortable and yet still very fast on smooth surfaces. Great tires, those.

Sure. Why not? Nothing more fun than rippin through a forest on a road bike.

This is some of the roughest I can ride through before I have to get off and walk.

Any kind of trails that are limestone, dirt, muddy with some stones and tree roots, my hybrid can handle. Now if it gets to being major rocks, yea, I'm off and walking it over.

Heck, my hybrid helps me follow my son even through fords:

Was headed for the beach last weekend. It was fogged in. Decided to try my favorite trail. Did surprisingly well for having street tires fitted!

Sure....tho I limit it to what the tires can handle at a medium-fast pace. Mostly hardpack "rhythm" type single track. Fitting some knobbier skins would probably help immensely.

But I get smoked by the hardcore MTB guys w/ dedicated rigs.

Great fun seeing the reaction of “real mt bikers” riding my all arounder up there!
