Opinion and fair value of used 2013 Trek FX 7.4

I am considering getting a used 2013 Trek FX7.4 from Craigslist that is supposed to be lightly used and in excellent working condition. Basically I am looking for a bike for recreation/fitness during the weekend. I tried to look for review on this model. But I could not find any in-depth review. What is the general opinion of this bike and model year? My concern is that it has Shimano Acera components which is supposed to be the low end component group. How reliable will this bike be?

The seller is asking for $300. BicycleBlueBook lists $247-$254 for this bike in excellent condition. I donít notice any component change other than the saddle based on the picture of this bike. I will try to see whether the seller will lower the price. Can I rely on the private party price of BicycleBlueBook to make a reasonable offer?

Altus is lower than Acera. And the Tourney line lower than the Altus. Alivo is above Acera. And Deore is above Alivo. Acera is a fine groupset and wonít cause you any issues.

I would offer $250 for it. Itís a great bike and suites the purpose you want to use it for.

2013 7.4 FX Specs from Trek Archives

In short, it's a nice bike. Carbon fork, aluminum alloy frame, and an Acera/Deore drivetrain (3x9). It was probably $700-800 new, and I think the "blue book" value of $275 is pretty fair. I second the suggestion to offer $250, but I'd probably pay the $300 if the color is what I wanted and the condition is very nice.

Good bike. Don't be too concerned about groupset. Any name-brand bike like Trek, Giant, etc. will all have decent components to shift and do the job, especially when looking at a hybrid bike just to ride around and get some exercise. I have a 2019 Dual Sport 2 (Trek) and it has Tourney and Acera stuff, never had an issue with a shift, never had a chain pop, nothing. Bike is awesome. I think people make a big deal about groupsets but realize it doesn't really matter too much unless you are doing some real mountain biking or trying to race or get into road biking/speed. Honestly, I've owned a full carbon road bike with Ultegra stuff (the 2nd to best groupset out there) and I had more issues with that bike than I do with my $800 dual-sport bike.
