New fork for 2007 Kona Shred turned hybrid?
I got this bike fairly cheap, and I've been slowly updating it. It currently has a Marzocchi Dirt Jam Comp fork (what the guy sold it to me with), with Sun Rhyno Lite rims, Kenda Kwick Bitumen tires, Shimano hydraulic brakes, SRAM single speed crank, and stock cassette. I'm looking at the Manitou Markhor, and Rockshox Recon Silver TK forks. Is there anything else in the price range that has rebound damping?

Do you really need a shock fork? I replaced the shock fork on two hybrids with a rigid carbon one and really didn't notice a difference in ride quality but I sure as heck noticed the weight savings! If you're not riding some serious off-road, save yourself some money and 5Lbs and get a China carbon fork.
On the GF's 2020 Trek DS3 I changed fork, seat post, handle bars, and bottle cages. All parts were carbon from Chinaland and cost ~$220CDN all in to shave a hair over 6 pounds off that bike. Not bad! |

Would you mind posting links to the carbon parts you upgraded the DS3 with? OP..if you're turning the bike into a hybrid, I too would give some hard thought to dumping the suspension fork in favor of a rigid, suspension-corrected fork. If you you want to keep it/use it as a hardtail..you may want to post this (not as a poll) in the mountain bike forum. |
my vote is for a rigid fork

Definitely a rigid fork. Something Suspension corrected length, I know that Surly has a couple of nice ones.
