Less Popular Brands with Good New Bikes?
Hi All, I am looking to buy my first bike for the goal of losing weight.
To be honest the good popular brands have really expensive bikes so I was going through some forums and couple of options are:
1. Buy a used really good brand bike.
2. Get a pricier bike from a less popular/big brands.
I have really little knowledge about bikes so not sure how to evaluate a good used bike.
My budget is around $600-$700. Please advise of some options for me. Thanks

what's your heigh and weight, age, how in shape are you? I ask because I went with a 1x drive train, but with gearing setup to help in hills. 45, 230lbs, 5'11. BMC Alpenchallenge AL Three 1x 10-51 setup. Aggressive yet comfortable stance for my body geometry. Debated about going with a 2x setup for easier efficient riding, but I'm trying to get as much workout in the limited time I have to bike rid (30min-2hours typicaly). Took me a while to find the right bike for me, even after having bought and sold a more expensive Trek FX Sport 6. So it all depends on you and trying a bunch out.

Deraill this!
Ok, since you are in the US, there are may options available to you. Marin and Jamis have solid bikes that fit in your budget. A coworker just purchased a Jamis Coda and is really happy with it. I'd also suggest looking into the Cannondale Quick series as they are closing out many models at this time. There are many things to discuss but your price point will likely get you a bike with 3x9 gearing, possibly mechanical disc brakes. and steel or aluminum frame depending on the brand. The Trek FX is a solid choice and is readily available in some form at that price point too.

+1 on Jamis. The Coda S1 would be an excellent long term entry level hybrid and a good bike that I have sold a lot of over the years (though back in the day it was the Coda Elite). I probably wouldn't want to go lower end than that because I think you will enjoy the S1 a lot more and it will last longer and be less of a barrier to riding. A used bike can be good but you really need to know what you are looking at and know you won't get any warranties or brand support from it generally.
I would certainly avoid anything with Shimano Tourney that is an easy low quality identifier that can help eliminate a ton of bikes that are suitable for very minimal riders who ride only once in a blue moon type of thing and can maintain their bikes well.

Canyon is having a really good sale on bikes at moment.
2 Hybrids that are both on sale for $600:

Both are not the cheap bikes that other manufacturers may sell for this price. It is a really good sale.
