Nice Cadent! It looks like it can take on anything.

chisler 05-30-12 05:02 PM

thanks alexaschwanden, It's a joy to ride. I use the bike on the road 90% of the time, the rest is dirt roads and paths. At 270+ I was a bit concerned with the rear, especially while traveling on dirt roads, but its been pretty good so far. I have visited a fishing spot a couple times that requires a pretty steep dirt path climb, the bike does spin its tires a bit going up the hill, but it does get there.

Good choice. Looks great.

Looks remarkably similar to the Specialized Sirrus.

Giant Roam XR1, 2012

After having Roam for about 10 days I was quite unsatisfied with the ride and come back to LBS...
Guys over there were suprisngly willing to help me with choosing the right bike for me and we agreed to give back Roam and order a new bike.

After some discussion and looking over components I finally ordered Giant Seek 1 2011. It's fully rigid commuter/touring bike with Shimano Deore components.

It arrived yesterday

Here is quick pic, I shell post better ones soon.

I wonder why they sold you the Roam in the first place. The two bikes are absolutely nothing like each other. You didn't discuss your needs originally?

Let's hope the Seek is what your after in 10 days time.

I must be honest and admit that Roam was originaly my choice and not by LBS... I thought that swapping sus fork for rigid one would make Roam perfect bike for me but it turns out that I was actualy seeking something more road oriented and that rigid fork wouldn't be only thing to change...

So now I'm proud owner of Seek and hope to ride as much as possible for the rest of the season - I was almost 4 weeks without a bike.

Roam or Seek? How about both-- Here is Our Fleet

I originally bought a 2011 Seek from LBS and I absolutely love it, my wife did too so I started looking for a new bike, the intention was to get another Seek, maybe a Seek 0, but I did not know enough about the internal 8 speed detailers and also at $1300+ that was just a little over my budget now. So my LBS guy recommended either a Trek DS84 or a 2012 Roam 0. 1 look at the roam and I loved it. I took it for a ride and surprisingly even with the stock knobbies it was fast enough. I will probably change them to something in between a road slick and the knobby at some point. The Seek is still faster but I am loving the extra cushion on the light gravel trails. Sure I have to pedal harder on the road, but I could use the extra exercise, (6' 1" 275 down from 315). Since the wife now got the riding bug we went out and upgraded the kids bikes too from BMX to Hybrids. Well Here is our Fleet all decked out for the trails.

^^^ Holy cow! Do you go on family rides together? Great looking stable.

brandini 06-02-12 06:55 PM

What rack is that?

Dawolf 06-02-12 08:50 PM

we do ride together, most recently my kids were trying to keep up with me on the Seek with their BMX bikes and after about 5 miles they just pooped out, they were way too small. So I broke down and got them their new rides so we can hit the trails on equal rides.
The racks are Topeak and so are the bags, I swore I would never get a rack and a big bag because I preferred the look without a rack. But I will never have a bike without one now. Its nice to have some storage there. Here is the link at REI site, I got it at my LBS, very easy to put on for most bikes. I put the Seek one on myself and had to take My Roam to LBS to put it on.

I picked up a 2012 Specialized Sirrus Comp last week. I switched the seat post to a zero offset Thompson and traded the stock Targa saddle for an Avatar Comp Gel. Here are a couple quick pics I snapped. It was raining out so I took the pics inside.

^Sweet bikes.

side_FX 06-03-12 07:12 PM

Just wondering what the little black plastic piece is right where the specialized name ends?

Thank you. I have a 2005 Rockhopper Comp too, not shown in the photos, that was my first Specialized bike and I really love that one too.

side_FX, that little black thing near the end of the Specialized name is actually just a piece of velcro wrapped around the frame which allows me to attach my battery pack for my bike light. The frame is an XL size and there is such a large distance between the top tube and the down tube and the battery pack wraps over the top tube and then there is a strap to go around the down tube, but it just doesn't reach. Without attaching that strap to the down tube the battery kept moving backwards and I happened to have some velcro straps available so I used that for an easy fix. I ride a lot at night.
