I got fenders, too, some Ergon grips, bar ends, and a rack. My biggest problem with straight bars is hand pain, but I think I may have solved it with this set-up. I'm starting to really like this bike.

I got new fenders on the Nishiki- SKS Longboards. Took it out last night to see how they fit.

Yay, a Trek 700!!! I had one just about that year, but blue with yellow decals, & flat bars. It was too cool though, & got stolen. Then I moved on to a Klein road frame, that I morphed into a very nice flat bar bike, with mostly 7-speed LX, and then a Cannondale H300, because my friend pestered me into swapping the Klein to him, LOL. That was back in the early-mid 90s, when folks thought you were nuts for riding and/or building a hybrid. I just finished my latest project yesterday, so stay tuned & I'll post up a pic or 2. It's only 7:50 AM here, I need my coffee first, LOL.

Here's my 2012 Charge Scourer, which despite being one of the cheaper bikes I've owned is fast becoming my favourite thanks to it's 'do-anything' abilities. I also really love the way it looks.

Upgrades over stock are M445 hydro discs and HG50 cassette. Fitted some Raceblades last night but haven't had chance to take any new pics, so this old one from the last days of summer will have to do...

Wish I could shave a little more off it's weight, but for the time being funds are putting a brake on it.

dude, totally loving that Charge. Makes me want to rethink my plan to put my KHS MTB back to hybrid status and get a more modern MTB. Would love both a hybrid/tourer type of bike with discs, but also a MTB with discs... but don't want to give up my old MTB cuz I still love that, too... ahhh the woes of n+1 when you don't have enough money.

Cheers, the spec is nothing to shout about but it's probably deserving of a few more upgrades. It was supposed to be a cheap workhorse, but I'm growing ever fond of it so will no doubt be buying nicer parts as bits wear out.

Which means I'll have to go down the n+1 route again for a cheap-don't-mind-it-it-gets-stolen hack bike!

Here is what I call mine
cheap junk from a used shop here in Cambodia
it has 700c rims and I put some 38s on it and last night I found a kralloy alum seat post. it is about 29 pounds but it gets me on the road.
I have new spokes coming and will respoke the rear and i would like to find a 12-28 7 speed pack to go with that 42t front. I have broken a few spokes due to poor tension and had them replaced and they used 13 g spokes so I have a mix of broken 13g and 14g spokes on the rear.

Well I did it!!! I finally read ALL 186 pages of this thread. I promised myself I wouldn't post a picture of my new hybird until I read all the other posts. I must say there are many super bikes out there and many impressive owners as well. Good job all of you. Three weeks ago my wife and I picked up our new Giant Escape RX 0's. They are to replace a pair of 18 year old Monogoose Crossway 850's that had over 30K miles on them. You can see the original thread here. They currently have 500 miles on them (you gotta luv FL weather). And today mine received what I hope is my last mod for at least the next month. I took this shot at a trail head on our local MUP, the Withlacoohee State Trail in North Central Florida.

So far the following items have been changed/added. The saddle have been changed to a Serfas MX-2 Dorado, added a RAM bracket for my Garmin Oregon 550T GPSrd, added Giant bar ends, a Topeak Explorer rack (changed out the support brackets to Bontrager large strut kit #427332 (black) as per DEW21's comments in the The rear rack thread, a to peak tool kit, two bottle holders ( one for my Kuat Bottle Lock (not on bike today), and finally the up stands you can see holding up both bikes (these were featured in my to knickstand or not thread). Now if these bikes last 18 years... or wait I'm already 63 so not really an issue.

What tweeks do you think it needs? I would imagine it'd be pretty spot on. It's your choice to modify, but with mine I just waited for the components to fail and then replaced with quaility parts.

My new hybrid

My new 2012 Kona Dr. Dew just brought home from the bike shop.

I am hoping to put some miles on this when it warms up a bit. 36 degrees today, rode for 15 minutes and got a brain freeze.
