Small world. I have the same bike. Same color.

It's sitting behind me at my desk as I type this!

I LOVE this bike too! Had a small problem with the front breaks from the get go. Turned out it was a poorly machined front brake rotor that was replaced under warranty and it works great now.

Other than that it's been a great bike.

Wish I lived close enough to work to be able to ride in everyday! But it is a joy to ride and it seems like it just wants to fly when riding on pavement! How long have you had yours and about how may mile have you put on it so far?

I got mine in April and I have put a few hundred miles on it. I don't get to ride every day like I want to (kids and 900 other things that force me to have a car at work so I can do stuff at lunch) but I could ride it every day and be totally comfortable doing it. It's a really nice ride.

I do not own a hybrid but I would think any of them would benefit (as far as speed is concerned) with quality 700/23-25 tires but you will lose the comfort so it is a fine line between speed and comfort.

It seems that a lot more people are now thinking that a 28mm tyre will be faster than a 23-25mm of the same compound, not sure where the limit is, with the "wider is better" thinking, as tyre weight and aerodynamics clearly has to be taken into account too.

for years I ran a 28C Michelin Dynamic on my hybrid. (Measured 31c) They were cheap $15 a tire, they cut up easy, but I didn't care I replaced them yearly. Didn't really get flats unless I waited until all the embedded stuff started working through. and for a cheap tire they were fast, especially on chip n seal.
A super fast tire is the Continental GP4000s II in a 28c which also measures big 30c. However, I'd advice against them for anyone riding city. My 25c Gp4000s rarely pick up glass, my 28c do all the time, no flats, but I tire (pun) of picking out glass.
My hybrid has Panaracer Pasela 38c folding. Super comfy, yet the Nomad Resist 35c are dang close to being same nominal size and roll faster than the Pasela.

If someone was looking for faster, comfort, dependability, I'd probably point them in the direction of a 32c Panaracer pasela. for pavement.

Anyone riding a mix of surfaces I'd vote for the X'plor USH previously labeled under Clements and now Donnelly. My 40c X'Plor MSO are slower on pavement (no slouch, I've ridden them on a drop bar on club rides), yet on dirt/gravel they are super fast.

As with anything, everything is a compromise. What works for one guy may not work for the next.

I just don't think I'd ever want anything less than 30c on a hybrid. Unless we are calling flatbar road bikes hybrids, but that is a different beast.

ColonelSanders, weight is were I draw the line on the "wider is better" thing.

For the same tyre compounds, the wider tyre will always be heavier, so how much is too much?

Well considering that hybrids are already heavy......

Probably doesn't matter on hybrids, because at a certain speed wind resistance becomes the limiting factor. So it really isn't about speed but a required wattage.

Speaking of watts, a 25c clincher tire ranges from a rolling resistance 9.9 watts (Continental GP TT) to 21.9 watts (Schwalbe Lugano). I'd rather ride my hybrid on a 35c Nomad Resist than a 25c Schwalbe Lugano.

Thanks dude. Custom built this in 2010 from a miss match of parts and it's still a favorite.

Wow, I am glad you fixed up the picture, that bike and the colour scheme in particular are gorgeous.

Did you do much to restore it?

Thanks. Here's how I got it:

It was in good shape. I haven't even cleaned it or anything. I changed the stem, grips, shifters (grip -> trigger), seat post, and saddle.
