Older mountain bikes are great as hybrid conversions, and newer ones can be, too. I have my 2018 Redline Zander sort of setup as a hybrid (what self-respecting mountain bike would have a luggage rack and a kickstand??? <GASP!>

Anyway, I was out for a little snow biking today and the 2.1" Vittoria Mezcal tires seem made for it. They have tenacious grip on hardpack trails as well. Mud is not their strong suit...but they seem to do just about everything else.

The weather has broken this weekend and looks even warmer next week, so we on the east coast have to make hay while the sun shines, right? My goal this year, now that I have a nice rack bag that I can take on either one of my primary bikes, is to start using our digital SLR camera more often instead of my 3 year old cell phone!

Bianchi Boardwalk

Sorry for posting a beat up dirty bike. Bianchi Boardwalk that research seems to show being from 1991. I got it perhaps 6 years ago from a flea market mall for $50. It needed tires and tubes and a derailleur wheel. I didn't know much about these and wasn't really much of a cycle aficionado, but I saw the alloy components and chrome moly frame. I drilled the rims for Schrader valves to match my old Schwinn and went riding. Frame says Tange and Superset2 and made in Taiwan. Suntour components.

This is a very pleasant riding bike. I use it for Sunday rides in urban commercial districts where it excels at hopping uneven pavement, curbs etc. My old Schwinn SuperSport is not good at that, nor my old 3 speed or Centurion Ironman. I guess different tools for different conditions depending on my mood.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c9b3809e89.jpg

Picked up my 2019 Specialized Sirrus elite carbon yesterday. I'm in Michigan so going to have to wait awhile to take it out. Looking forward to this summer!

I was looking a t the sirrus elite alloy that bike is listed at $1,200. The elite carbon is only $200 more with the same components. It was a no brainer for me. The elite carbon is one of the best deals going on in 2019 from all the big name brands.

It is a great deal. However, look at the Canyon RoadLite CF 7.0. It has full 105 11 speed system and weights in at 17 ibs. in Medium for only $99 more. Oh well. that's the best thing about having choices before your put your $$ down. https://www.canyon.com/en-us/fitness...oadlite-cf-9-0

I noticed that one awhile back but sure wish I could test ride one. How do you like the Canyon compared to your Giant Fastroad? I remember you 6 years ago when we both had the Giant Escape RX.

My wife and I both enjoyed our RX's at the time. Sold them when Giant put out the Escape carbon model put about 15K miles on them and purchased the FastRoads. Now on to the Canyon's. The RoadLites are the best bikes we have ever had. In my mind Giant was the brand offering the best value for your $$ but that's not my option now. I can't believe that Canyon can offer the value they do at the price they are asking. Have your read my thread on the purchase? https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bi...roadlites.html.

Here's what I wrote on that thread to the same ?

Please understand that the Giant FastRoad CoMax 1 is already on the high end for fitness/hybrid market at around $2000. It’s the top of the line for Giant and has similar specs to the other major manufactors high end models. The differences between the Giant and the Canyon with be a more subtle than say the comparison to a low end model and maybe more or less personal preference.

That said here goes.

1. The first thing you notice is the design and fit and finish. The RoadLite is a very clean and refreshing to my eyes The lack of Giant labels on every part is a blessing (at last count I think I found Giant on 32 places on my CoMax) The color scheme of gloss vs flat blacks is very pleasing to me. Little fine touches such as boots from where the cables enter the frame which the Giant doesn’t have. The cockpit is really stunning as it is one piece stem and handlebar. This wouldn’t work for everyone of course but the reach is just right for me. None of the aforementioned items have anything to do with the ride however just general aesthetics which certainly add to the appeal of the RoadLite.

2.The use of a lot of carbon fibre allows the RoadLite to be at least 4 lbs lighter than the Giant. This in itself is not a biggie to me. But the fact the the RoadLite can start from say a stop light and get to speed much quicker and with less effort than the Giant is cause for delight. Realizing that at 69 and a bad heart my engine is going to get any better anything that can enhance my ride speed and make for longer/faster rides is a plus in my book. The whole package from the carbon wheels, split seat post and fibre combo stem/handlebar give a more comfortable ride as well. Some of this may be the 30mm OEM tires (at 80psi) and I might have to update this statement when I switch to the 25mm tubeless Pro Ones.

3. I really like the 1 X drivetrain. Never had a bike with Sram parts before always Shimano. But the Sram system is really top shelf stuff. Less to go wrong, less to maintain. There is never any chain rub or chance of cross chaining. While only 12 speeds they are gears that I use not just carry around for looks. So far I haven’t found that I needed any other gears in my travels. Of course I live in Florida. But our trails are not completely flat.

I’m sure that someone with more cycling experience and better writing skills would be able to do a better job at describing the nuances better than I. But, for me I see our RoadLites as a giant step up from our FastRoads.

Thanks for the link. I have been away from the hybrid forum. I was riding hardtail mountain bikes the past few years. I sold my carbon hardtail and it almost paid for the new Sirrus.

Very nice; aftermarket wheelset?

Mine is on order for March delivery. I'm told that size M (my size) in this bike is already sold out in NA for the year. LBS says not to worry -- mine is reserved and will be part of their main spring delivery from Specialized. They'd better be right, or badger :notamused:

Smart changes from stock. Those Hunt wheels look nice and they've been very well-reviewed.

Are you in the UK? Also, I recognize the post but what bars did you switch to?
