How did you enjoy the c&o on that bike? My girlfriend has a 7.2 and I have a 7.3 fx and we couldn't make it more than 3 miles from point of rocks towards Brunswick. The rocks were way too big and I almost broke a spoke. Do you know of any smoother portions of the trail up here In Maryland?

The only thing I don't like about these narrow tires is that sharp rocks on the road always stick in the tires. It makes a thump sound after every rotation of the tire, so it gets pretty annoying. I end up having to stop and pick out the rock so that it stop making the sound. The rocks don't penetrate the tires, so it's all good.

I think the colors look good. With dust and grit from the road on the tires, the black strip turns greyish and blends in with the grey strips. When the time comes that I have to replace these tires (I'm anticipating this to be in 2-4 years), I am going to get blue, so the strips stand out.

- Front torchlight 5watts Cree Q5 ( perfect for night rides. I can ride 15-18 mph with it, and still feel safe and see stuff, from Ebay $12-$15 including shipping )
- Deore XT Pro brake shoes - much longer and much better braking power comparing to oem ones.
- Tires: Specialized Infinity Armadillo 700x38c rear, and Specialized Infinity Sport 700x38c front. They look identical, and the only differences are price: $10 cheaper for sport, and flat protection - Armadillo version is better, but also weights little more )
I officially already spent more for upgrades than I paid for the bike...Don't tell my wife ;-)

Specialized Crosstrail 2010
Nice upgrades! Especially diggin' Cane Creek Thudbuster seat post. I'll be replacing the Borough XC Sport that came on my Crosstrail Sport with the CX Armadillo. They still got the knobs, but not as much as the XC's.

I like it. Any idea what year it is? Looks like it might be a Kent, WA, built bike; does the serial number line up with this serial number system?

My wife's Specialized Ariel came with CX. There is not much grip on them. You have to be very careful with these tires. I'm not saying that they are bad, but in city riding, It wouldn't be my choice.
After long, long research, I choose Infinity tires as a great city/ commuter tires. I tested them in the last few days, including riding in the forest, and over 90 miles in wet conditions, mostly on asphalt trial. Infinity tires are a perfect marriage of speed and grip in any conditions.

I didn't find it too difficult. Perhaps my mountain biking experience helped. I think the conditions change as maintenance crews work to repair sections damaged by weather and traffic. This website has a lot of info about riding the towpath. Apparently the towpath near Point of Rocks is typically among the roughest sections. I think the smoothest part is between Georgetown and Swains Lock, but you must pay attention even here. I saw some places where the edge of the towpath had been washed down an embankment towards the river. An inattentive rider could easily be diverted down the same embarkment is he or she didn't notice the erosion in time.

Trek 7200FX...kind of

Completed upgrade of my wife's Trek 7200FX..
Picked it on CC for $200 - year 2005 but seemed to be never used - not a scratch on chainring.
Decided to do something else with it.

Wheels - Ritchey Aero
Tires Vittoria Zafiro
Cassette Sram 9 spd
Rear derailleur/shifters - SRAM X5
Front derailleur/crankset - Snimano Deore M510
Brakes - Avid SD7
Levers - Shimano R550
Saddle - Terry Fly Ti
Pedals - Nashbar Rodeo dual
Handlebar - Ritchey
...
about $80 invested in seatpost, stem, ergo grips, barends, cage to make it look "fresher".

Bottle cage is Made in France. LOL.

Believe it or not this is men's seat and I was riding it for couple of years on my road bike. Love these tiny flowers.

Nice. Understated, but classy. I would suggest shortening up the struts on that rack to make it more level, but otherwise nice wheels!

Thanks, I agree on the rack. The guy who was putting it all together was having some difficulty with the rack, but he agreed to fix that when I have time to make it back to the shop. I'm taking it for my first official ride this morning before we see another triple-digit day.

Finally got some panniers for my birthday. I went and pilfered a bunch of tomatoes from my sister's garden, and they transported them home admirably. I now have a dozen tomatoes to eat for dinner tonight (I *might* take some to my parents if they ask nicely. )

I just flipped my stem. I like the new (more) aero position that I have now. I also put on toe-clipped pedals a couple weeks ago from my dad's old Motobecane. By the beginning of the next cycling season, it will have clipless pedals on it.

Downward slope of the stem:

Edit: Though you can't see it, I also got Velox rim tape after I got a flat tire from the stock rim tape tearing.

Edit 2: giantcfr1: I stole (well, borrowed) your idea of taking a hole punch to some reflective tape and putting the circles on the rims. I ordered some silver reflective tape on amazon with free 2 day shipping (because I don't know where to get it here in town) and will take a hole punch to it when it arrives. I'd like to have some reflective bits on the wheels now that I don't have the old spoke reflectors... I hated those spoke reflectors. They were ugly, weighed a lot, and threw off the balance of the wheels.

Getting there! When I get the funds, I am going to redo the drivetrain and do a drop bar conversion. But that won't be for at least a year. I will save $20 a month. I think I am going to go with microshift for the brifters.. They are cheaper!
