Looks great Igo...The bar ends look really good as well, I think those are the ones I'll get for mine....Were they hard to put on?

Pretty easy actually. The only hard part had nothing to do with the bar ends. It helps if you have a stand and can put your foot against the bike. You have to spin the grips off rubber against dry metal so you have to spin both front and back equally. Use a razor knife to cut out the ends of your grips. Use windex to put the grips back on.
I'm glad I put the bar ends on. I was going to cut 2/3 inch off the handlebars anyway in order to bring my hands closer in. This way I didn't have to trin the bars.

Bikes: I never learned to ride a bike. It is my deepest shame.

Most of the time you can cut the ends of the grips by hitting the end of them with a hammer while they are installed on the bar... the end of the bar will cut a neat perfectly circular home in the end of the grip. Then move your brake and shift levers inboard an inch or two, squirt some hair spray (or windex, although I have never tried that) under the grips and slide them in, then add the bar ends, and re-adjust the position of the grips and brake and shift levers.

Well I have a house in escrow right beside the famous River Mountain Trail, the best bike path on the planet. I am going to replace my roadie but this time I'll keep it a roadie; instead, I bought a Giant Escape 1 to convert into my commuter/truck bike. I brought it home 72 hours ago and have already gone nuts on it but I knew how I wanted it outfitted. It's ready to go less the new peddles, GPS mounts for the occasions I use one and the Topeak rack and truck (which was stolen with the Defy road bike) which will be here Tuesday. Couldn't stand it, I just had to get some pictures today. I'll take a couple more next week
2012 Giant Escape 1, started like this:

Tool bag, bottle racks, new seat and bars ends it is starting to look like the commute/explorerr it was meant to be:

Very Nice !!

Looks nice but I don't know how you desert dwellers ride in the hot months. It's even hot at night in the summer.

That sounds like a very fine plan indeed. Makes plenty sense. I am also aware that filling the handlebars with compressed air will more easily remobe grips (if you are removing them that is) but I didn't have compressed here at the time. I use windex to snap plastics pannels into rubber grommets on my motorcycles. I also use windex to center decals on glass as well as other tricks. I didn't really have a plan for the bar end installed, I just used a mish-mesh of old ideas. I think O like your idea better. Rubber mallot?

See that mountain in the background? It's 12,000 feet high. Fantastic summer riding up there, but you should come ride with us in the desert the other 8 months. It doesn't get any better. Still, because my commute is uphill to work, I find it very pleasant commuting in the summer. I peddle uphill when its 84 and I coast downhill when it's 115. LOL>

I actually find that nights in the desert can be MUCH colder than you would expect.

No, it's the Toocan from Detours. It's a little heavy, but it can hold a ridiculous amount of stuff. We has a picnic dinner for 4 carmmed in there that day. I use it for groceries regularly.

That's cool.... Can't believe I noticed it appears to be made from apple juice containers, but didn't notice the label on the side. Haha... Nice looking bike!

You were right about the Trek, GREAT city bike. Just need to change the tires, and put on the rack.

(for a 1997 model, it is in mint condition)
