I agree with you, they have many nice trails in Illinois, but most of them are in or around cities. For most its fine or probably very convenient, but I preffer long trails far from everything
Padded / gel gloves are a good idea. I'm thinking about buying good pair, but after months of riding without any gloves, I noticed that my hands are getting better. My biggest problem is my butt discomfort/pain. Even with padded shorts, almost like clockwork, I'm in pain around 70 miles or about 6 hours... Someone told me to invest more in good padded shorts, then expensive seat...makes sense.

@mmj12345 great job on your long ride. Make sure you drink enough and right fluids, and don't forget about energy food before and during, and proteins / recovery food after ride. It will make a huge difference, and rides will be even more fun.

I took a ride on the Katy Trail today. I was out 6.5 miles when the clouds and thunder rolled in. I turned around and made it within sight of my truck when the rain cut loose. I did manage to grab one picture while I was out.

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Went for a 26.3 mile ride East down the Great Western Path and then back West down the Illinois Prairie Path. I totally underestimated the wind, it was brutal today!

Snapped a few pics when I stopped for a rest in Villa Park:

My hybrid took me approximately 3 city blocks away to get a haircut - loved it!

btw Mmj12345, I looked up this Illinois Prairie Path and I'm very interested in heading there myself! I've been looking for a nice long path and this seems to be the one!

Saguaro National Monument Tucson, Az

This was my ride to Saguaro National Monument. I was afraid of the killer hill smack in the middle, so i didn't go through it... This time.

Until Wednesday, I am a roadified CX rider, riding on my friend's 2003ish Kona Jake the Snake. As a thank you for letting me use his bike, I wrapped his bars with some new tape (I asked him what color he wanted first). This is why I kept pointing the camera at the cockpit.

My [strike]hybrid[/strike] friend's cx bike took me to Confluence park in downtown Denver.

My (friend's) bike was lying down on the non-drive side in the grass, while I was sitting on a bench on the other side of the path, drinking my Starbucks!

Edit: Part 2 of the video.. With my voice, too! (gasp )

I just got done riding at Chicago's Lake Front Path which apparently is dreaded by many on here but I enjoy riding there. Here are a couple of pictures I took today - it was dark and I used my cell phone to take these so bear with me in regards to pic quality.

My new Ergon GC2-L grips installed right before going riding - Absolutely love them and noticed great difference!

Side shot before leaving

22miles in Virginia Beach with a couple of roadies. I managed to keep up with them even at speeds excessive of 25mph. The head wind was just awful though. Made me wish I had drop bars.

Harvest tme in the Midwest.

22 miles into to town and back through farm country.
It is the begining of harvest time here in the midwest. That time of year when you get to share the road with Combines and 18 wheel trucks loaded with grain and driven by teen agers! This is a beautiful time of year and it always good to see a good harvest headed to the market.

I have the rest of the week off because of the Jewish new year. The "yom tov" (literally means good day, used to refer to Jewish holidays) doesn't start until tonight, so I went on a ride with my friend. We got pizza and coffee. Nice day.
