I prefer my snow to Vancouver's constant pissing rain... it was beautiful riding today what with all the huge flakes of snow coming down.

It was also nice to lose that trailer after towing it around for two days... I moved a damn fridge this morning and then took a load of scrap bikes to the recycling centre.

LOL. Sixty Fiver, you can keep your huge flakes, I'll gladly take the marvelous sunshine that we had in Vancouver today. I too rode around the sea wall today, as well as through some of the trails in Stanley Park to check out some of the forest artwork, before riding around False Creek. Beautiful day it was, although it's certainly got a bit chilly over the past week or so.

Short ride on Saturday, after the rain. 9 miles to Fairfax City Fall Festival and back.
Longer ride on Sunday. Arlington, DC, and Alexandria. Stopped at the Solar Decathlon on the Mall. Then out to Anacostia, Oxon Hill, Wilson Bridge and back thru Old Town and the W&OD. 39 miles.

Damn right.

I hated Edmonton in the dead of winter, the one time I was there as a teenager. Too goddamn cold! Plus cars were sliding all over the place. Plus it's REALLY flat. All that was there then was the West Ed Mall, only cool part of that was seeing the Decapitation ride.

Way back when you were a teenager there was just a gigantic mall smack dab in the middle of the prairie...

You would like it more now that you are an adult.

You hope.

However, Calgary I simply adore. Yes, terrible urban sprawl but the weather there is fantastic! Clear, sunny skies and no rain and barely even snow in December. Who cares if you get a bloody nose from the dry air.

Ended up going around Washington Park over to Cherry Creek today. Made for a nice cool autumn ride (temperature 42F).

Took a little ride up the C&O canal, 184.5 miles, over the Columbus Day weekend. So the short answer is
....from Washington DC to Cumberland MD.

Today, for the first time in more than a month, my Hybrid took me around the block!

During the last 6 days, I have graduated from no weight bearing and crutches, to two canes, to one cane, and finally left it against the wall when I got on my bike. I had to use it to get back in the house, though. If you had seen the comical progression, you would be rolling on the floor, laughing. My Grandaughter said I looked like a bird trying to fly, with one broken wing, and one broken leg.....

I had to lower the seat to make falling less of an issue, and to allow me to get on. I was in blue jeans, and tennis shoes. and really went slowly (less than 10 MPH.) My form was a little less than stellar, and I stayed in really low gears!

Considering that I have only been bearing any weight on my ankle for less than a week, (after a severe dislocation, and many torn ligaments) and the very limited range of motion - the ride was quite nice.

I went around twice, so got in close to a mile - and I really feel it in my pedalling muscles......... BUT, IT'S A START!

Now, to get some miles in before the snow flies, and try to get rid of this 7# I put on sitting still for a month. It sure will be nice to get up to 10 miles, 20 miles, 30 miles, etc. The Beast in the basement will be calling my name soon enough!

p.s. Don't tell my wife - she was gone shopping when I went out; and, I plan my next few rides for when she will be gone to work!

I built up a new bike today ass I converted a nice mid eighties road bike into a winter cross bike... it is for a friend but I will be de-bugging it all week and will have to post a few pics.

It's freaking awesome and should surely get the good hybridizing seal of approval.

It makes me wish it would snow so I could really put it through it's paces.

Here we go... and perhaps I should start with a before pic.

1988 Steve Bauer Chinook.

After...

Chinook winter cross bike.

This bike is a friggen blast to ride... pulled those Scott bars and Avid SD2's from my parts bin, threw in a wide range 7 speed, and threw put the biggest baddest tyres I could fit into the frame.

It rides like a dream and stops on a dime with the Kool Stop salmon pads... makes me wish I was keeping it for meself.

Cornflakes and Wanderer, big rides! Congratulations!

65er, agree about the snow, most fun bike riding condition. Almost as much fun as skiing/snowboarding in it.
