Been a busy week as I have continued trying to up the ante when I can (Kids and life always comes in the way of things )

Wednesday after work I had some time and thought I'd see how the ride went to my moms, the small rail-to-trail I take to work from my house I THOUGHT went most of the way to hers. Turns out I went a few streets over before being dropped into the middle of two ghettos, and got to ride my bike a decent amount on fairly busy streets (something still new to me). Was a good time though! 17miles round trip to moms and back, adv speed of 13.89, not too terrible.

Then today Sunday I convinced mom to watch the kids for a couple and for us to have a after ride lunch . 29 Mile round trip, from her house to the trail and onward to and through the Mill Creek Metroparks Bikeway:

https://www.millcreekmetroparks.com/P...5/Default.aspx

Sorry didn't stop to take pictures, but the link has some general pictures. Fairly nice trail though, taking you through a 400+ acre farm, past a turnpike, over a major street and many other sights. 29 Mile round trip, adv speed 14.77.

I will still fight the peer pressure of dressing like peter pan, but I am definitely looking at getting some padded shorts to wear under my basketball shorts! Poor butt is sore!!

I took my first vacation day of the year last week and rode portions of the West Orange and South Lake trails for the first time, which are about 25 miles west of Orlando. The weather was perfect and I biked about 27 miles before calling it a day.

Part 1 - West Orange Trail

Eastbound, the West Orange Trail runs through downtown Oakland, then through the Oakland Nature Preserve (Mile 2) where there is an outpost. It continues through downtown Winter Garden in the median of Plant Street, passing through Winter Garden Station (Mile 5). The trail leaves downtown on the north side of Plant Street, winds northeast and eventually ends in Apopka near Welch Road (Mile 22).

Crosses Florida Turnpike

Winter Garden

Quaint, small town, with a variety of shops and dining. The well traveled trail threads down main street (Plant St), where the railroad once had a line. The influx of riders has helped revitalize the area. A comfortable 5 mile (level grade, open and canopied areas) ride from the Killarney trailhead, make for a pleasant day trip.

Part 2 - South Lake-Lake Minneola Trail

From the Killarney Station at the Orange County line, the westbound 5 mile trail is part of the South Lake-Lake Minneola Scenic Trail in Lake County which was connected to the West Orange Trail in 2007.

I would describe it as a picturesque trail within an agricultural, rural and suburban setting. There are canopied areas which provide shade, however as the trail approaches Clermont sections rise and fall moderately, which may be challenging for a novice rider.

Rode 5.4 miles down a somewhat busy, rural highway to town just to return a Redbox DVD rental. And of course, 5.4 miles back home afterwards. "Forgot" the DVD when I left this morning. The things I'd do to have an excuse to ride the bike! (and save $1.30)

I took a picture of the bike in front of the kiosk using my phone but the sun was too bright to make any of it out so I ended up deleting it. I did enjoy "driving" up to the kiosk instead of having to park, get out, and walk up to it. Another perk of bicycling!

That's funny! I pretty much did the same thing about a year ago...I was boat sitting by myself for a month and rented redbox about everyday...but was only a couple miles away from WM to get em. I just picked the right time to bring a bike to work!

Yes, the grading on the South Lake Trail becomes rather steep as you approach Clermont. Irrespective of what gear you’re in, attempting to peddle uphill in this area is tiring. I (easily) decided to walk the bike across a few rises while hydrating and munching on a Quest energy bar. Had I been familiar with both trails beforehand, I would have ridden the more difficult one first. I arrived home somewhat tired and dehydrated, but it was a fun day, and I slept well that evening. Thankfully, there wasn’t any soreness the following day, which leads me to believe my visits to the gym haven’t been in vain.

Cool Tough break-in ride, Chicago Lakefront

Rode my new Jamis Comp through crap Chicago weather, subpar paved roads littered with 5k walkers, joggers, and runners to my fave spot to watch the Lake Michigan waves crash into the rocks. Talk about a break-in ride.

Very cool... We went to the Field Museum before picking up my new ride from REI in Lincoln Park yesterday and was envious of all the cycle-friendly paths in the city. Another trip downtown is in order soon for a ride up and down Lake Shore Dr :-)

Most def......Chicago is a very cycle friendly. Miles of paved paths downtown and dedicated bike lanes on the majority of city streets.

I started working from home last year and recently have been kind of missing going into an office. I work in the evenings, so by the time the majority of people I know are getting home from work I'm just starting my day. It leaves me the mornings and afternoons to do whatever I want, but I'm usually by myself during that time. Riding today I went over 75, as I do most days. Usually I don't even glance over to the highway, but today I decided to stop and look, and then the idea of missing the office disappeared as I thought about just how good I have it. No rush hour traffic, no suit and tie, no packing my lunch or having to drive among all the angry ******** trying to get their Big Macs and get back in a 30 minute window. I get to hop on the bike 7 days a week with no destination in mind and just ride. I'll never go back to the office.

What this Bike lacks in the "WOW "factor... It sure does make up for it, under the hood.
