It's cherry blossom time in DC, so I did my yearly cherry blossom ride.
Hit the major blossom viewing areas - Tidal Basin, Hains Point, Capitol Hill, National Arboretum, Takoma Park, Sligo Creek, Forest Glen and Kenwood (the last one is the best)
Got a flat tire in the last mile, so I walked back. Will fix the tire later this week.

I went to Hains Point today but a lot of the blossoms are gone after a big rain storm Monday night.

I was off work today so I decided to do a test run for commuting. I know going to work on your day off is crazy. Somehow I turned a 9 mi round trip into 19 mi. I bonked way too far from home. I guess low carbs and cycling don't mix. I will get the balance with some practice.

I spent five hours today polishing a handlebar stem and headset. Bugger I should have been riding. Its autumn here now.

Great pics as always. Now if you had ridden your hybrid there instead of walking, you could have posted them here!

Today's ride was from Falls Church to the Kite Festival at the Washington Monument, and more cherry blossoms.

It was originally scheduled for two weeks ago...the day is snowed. Postponed at the last minute and rescheduled.
If the government shutdown had happened, it would have been canceled altogether.
I could see some of the big kites from the other side of the river
Looked like there were several hundred kites in the air at any given time.
The multi-color one with two tails in the picture was about 12 feet across. I watched them launch it and after 10 minutes it had climbed really high.

I finally got around to installing super-low climbing gears on my Sirrus, so I figured I needed to test it properly
First it took me up to this hilarious sign in the middle of a climb:
Next it took me past a roadie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXh-oO75xYc
Then it took me up a hill I've never climbed before with a maximum grade of 17%

Then it took me up and down a few more hills and past one of my favorite signs:

Then it took me up and down a few more hills and up the final sufferfest of a climb on this ride:

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
cfr - I have a Superflash rear light, a blinkie in my helmet , have two very bright forward lights, and ride in superhero yellow with reflective stripes.
And my shoes have 360 degrees of reflectivity too.
