Perhaps this is a more appropriate place to post a picture of my bike. Although the term hybridized would imply that the bike started out as something else and was changed by the user, which isn't the case with my ride. Bah, whatever, here it is anyway:

I purchased it new (as in unused) in 2008, but it might be as old as a 2006 model since that is the last model year it is listed as having the 2.2" wide tires available.

Here's my 2008 Specialized Hardrock Sport.
Topeak Rack with Topeak bag, that slides on the rack on rails, a very nice system.
View showing the pop out panniers.
Swapped out the woeful stock shock with the rock solid Surly 1x1 fork and
swapped out the stock knobby tires with street friendly Michelin XC Hard Terrain 26x2.0 and a Topeak front fender

Here's my 2009 Jamis Trail-X 3.0, hardtail "Frankenhybrid" CST 1.75 muti-use tires, Explorer rear rack and tailpack, suspension seat post, chrome splash guards (coudn't find carbon fiber, rats), long handlebar extensions, handlebar water bottle rack, blackburn mirror, full clips with straps, custom made trailer coupler for homemade utility trailer, it's now a very useful machine and even more fun to ride roads and paths.

Interestingly, the Fisher bike that currently carries the Cronus name is a full carbon road bike.

'97 Gary Fisher Nirvana
My bike also came from the factory as a hybridized mtb. According to the '97 Fisher catalog:
s.u.b. A.K.A. Sport Utility Bike. The heart of these bikes are mountain bike frames. Because of light, fast-accelerating 26" wheels with slick tread tires and bigger gearing, these bikes go like hell on pavement. And they're no slouches when you stray off the beaten path. An S.U. B. is stronger, faster, and lighter than some generic mutation hybrid bike: they're brand new and they really work.
Interestingly enough, the frame of the '97 Nirvana isn't identical to any of the '97 Fisher mountain bikes. It has slightly steeper head tube and seat tube angles, and a lower bottom bracket, besides other differences. I like the fact that it has more road bike-ish gearing. It's been a great do-anything type of bike.

my low budget grocery getter. i have put a rear rack on, but i want to get a front basket for it. it will probably be geared again in spring.

It's very comfortable with the steel frame, riser bars, and 1.5" slicks. Components are showing their age so I've begun the dismantling process and I hope to have it looking something like manicmike's Nishiki in the not-too-distant future.

This is my suburban street crawler, I'm just taking home from the LBS, I had them put the chain on, I did the rest. Was bone stock sitting in my basement for about 10-yrs or so ridden so little that to call it 'broken in' is overly generous. Decided to single-speed it for simplicity, added on-one mary bars just as something different so yet to see if they are a wise choice. Stock parts are frame, fork, wheels, headset, brakes and stem cap. Put balloon Big Apples on em to ease the ride. Total money pit, more as a personal project as I re-enter cycling. I know I sunk way more money into this pristine relic than I paid for the whole thing brand new but thats not what this was about.

My bikes:
Late 90's GT Palamar. 21 speeds, Schwalbe City Jet Tires, Halfords (crap overpriced) mud guards. It's a very heavy bike. I mainly keep it as a spare or for when I have leave my bike in rough areas (there are lots in South Yorkshire).
Mid 90's Ridgeback 601GS. 6 speed freewheel, City Jet Tires, Axiom Rack, Agu Yamasha Pack which has handy fold out side bags and can also unzip to extend upwards.
Next to fit some Marathon Plus Tires. I still get the odd puncture with the City Jet's and I hate changing flats.

I am not sure if you call this hybridized or roaderized. my mountain bike is biult around 700c wheels. sort of the original 29er but with gears. here it is with the errand rack and road tires on it.

Are you sure it's an '86? From what I remember Up to '87 the paint schemes of Specialized's whole line up was conservative. (Solid colors, or two tone [a little like a Rivendell]) At '88 both the road and Mountain line went "loud and proud" consistent with the paint scheme of your bike and my '88 Sirrus.
