In my opinion, most bicycle riders (hybrid or otherwise) would not be able to roll from a highside without putting their hands down first. Think of a somersault vs. a flip. Hands first, bent elbows and roll from there might offer better chance of success, rather than landing flat on back on pavement. I don't know.
Wearing gloves can't hurt though. |

What I really don't get is all you guys talking about crashing all the time -- if that's the case, you should perhaps switch to walking. I've been riding bikes for over 40 years and have never crashed on the street, anywhere. Not once. What the heck are you guys doing? |
yes, gloves all the time

I feel like i got gipped. I have fingerless gloves... so uhm yeah, gloves all the time
|
Hmm... I never even thought about wearing gloves. I will have to look into getting a pair.

Definitely gloves ... bike feels strange when I don't wear them.

Yes, have them on for each ride. Like my helmet, I view them as a safety item, but they also have a comfort left. I've bought full finger gloves for use as the temp cools off.

I really appreciate those terry cloth thumbs that a lot of gloves have.:) I sweat a lot, and those terry cloth thumbs on my Spenco Ironman gel gloves are like wind-shield wipers for my eyes.
I even use bicycling gloves when I run. I was glad I did, this summer, when my foot went out from under me on a dewey, polished, granite curbstone. I came down on my hands in the street, rolled forward, resumed running, unscathed. Gloves also protect the backs of your hands from the sun. I never ride without them. |
Gloves all the time and with GEL padding. I play guitar and can't afford to have hand-discomfort or road rash from a spill. Still, I would wear them regardless.
