A utility bike is not designed for off-road use. It's designed to carry stuff -- on streets.

I don't see myself mountain biking on my 7700 FX though really.

A hybrid is not a mountain bike. It's a bike that can also be used on bike paths and light trails (limited off-road), but it's not intended to be used for mountain bike riding.

Utility bikes predate pavement. They can go on dirt.

Perhaps (depending upon your definition of said bicycle), but modern utility bikes don't predate pavement and the road is their intended usage. They certainly are not made to go off-road (which is where hybrids are intended to go). At any rate, utility bikes are not hybrid bikes, that's why they have their own name.

At 29 pounds for a very basic 1 speed coaster brake steel bike it sounds to me like the "American Steel" used is Hi Tension steel, basically a medium carbon steel as has been used on lower end steel bikes for most of their history.

Considerably more expensive than a Worksman bike which is also American made and which is available in multiple sizes and with numerous factory options.

I like this hybrid and at 29 lbs with gas pipe steel construction, it's probably more durable and better suited for off road use than 90% of today's hybrids! LOL!
