Which Ergons?
 

So many options to choose from... GC2, GR2, GC3, GX2

I can't find any information on how to select the one for me. Can somebody enlighten me as to which model suits which application and any other information needed to make a decision on which model to get?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems from looking that at least some of the difference is materials used, and whether it has integrated bar ends.

There is also a variation in size (small/large) to accommodate large and small hands,

There is also a short (for grip shifters) and long (for all other shifter types) version for at least some models.

The allow you to choose different bar ends, and also allow you to install things like Mountain Myracle rear view mirrors.

The newer styles don't give yu those options.

Points I hadn't considered... I was thinking of getting one with bar ends integrated, but I may rethink that.

When using Ergons always wear gloves. If you do not then the rubber used on the Ergon grips will start to slowly disintegrate on your sweaty hand, lessening the life of the grips and making the grips look prematurely worn out.

That hasn't been my experience. Could it possibly be something like hand lotion causing the problem?

My hands, typically, see nothing but soap and water, and I've never had a problem - and I've been on some real sweaty rides....

I actually tried both, and gave away the pair with the integrated bar ends. They are adjustable for angle, all right, but just aren't comfortable, and that's what it's all about. The small size is for small/medium. The large are really big.

I ended up trimming my Ergons with a hacksaw so I could keep my Cane Creek stabilizers. If I had to choose, I would take the Ergons alone, but since both fit. . . .

You know, I've only had mine for a few months and I'm already noticing that they're starting to get smooth. I don't know if it has anything to do with my hands sweating, though. I'll have to dig up my gloves and see how it goes.

That sounds good to me... I usually wear XXL gloves, every once in a while I can squeeze into XL. :)

my beef with ergon grips is that you have to grip them from a particular angle. with uniformly round grips - i can easily take my hands on and off and make no effort to position my hands. maybe i'm just clumsy but the ease of doing that enables me to move my hands around some more and keem them relieved. i've never had real ergon grips but i did have one shaped like that in hard plastic as a stock component.

Honestly, I'm finding that my Ergon's aren't as comfortable as I was hoping they would be. I've adjusted the angle of the palm pads a number of times and they just don't seem to be the miracle working devices I heard them to be purported as by so many. I'm not sure if I have the wrong size or if they're just not for me, but I don't have the money to keep dumping into the problem right now. It could also just be the geometry of my bike.

Perhaps some dirt drops are in order for me in the future. . .


Edit: Didn't mean to start steering this thread off topic. I have the Ergons with the small bar ends that are made of aluminum and I think the palm rest area is the large size.

It seems they help people who are more predisposed to carpel tunnel.

Age related? I don't know.

But, they sure have helped me eliminate sore wrists/hands on any ride over 20 miles.

I won't be without them.

I switched to this more current picture of myself when I noticed a couple of other mods had avatars with sun glasses... I am a follower by nature. ;) I don't really like this one, but I thought I would use it for a little while anyway.

I had a pic of me as a child in a cowboy hat before this, and before that I had me as a baby/toddler crying... That one seemed too negative. I did have my high school ID picture up a long time ago...

Who knows what I'll do next? Maybe one of my pictures from when I was a real live Marine... ;)
