Ergon GC3
How do you know the proper sizing? What is the difference in Small and Large? Didn't see any guidance on their website.
thanks! |
I really think the small is for someone with really small hands. I don't envision anyone with "normal" sized hands having any problem with my large GP-1's.
|
The suggestion I've seen is "large" is for men, "small" is for women. I have GP1 and GR2, both "large" and they are fine for my average size man-hands. I've only had the GR2's for about a month, with magnesium bar ends that I don't know how I ever did without on a flat-bar handlebar.
|
I just wish their newer style integrated bar ends had facilities to insert a Mountain Myrracle mirror in their end,,,,,,,,, a major drawback, as far as I'm concerned. The old style GP-1's are fine.
|
I use the small GC3s. The grey insert grip pad is 45.5mm wide and 66.5mm long at the maximum. Total width is 54mm.
Effective length where the palm of your hand could rest is 98mm...this includes 27mm of bar end.. The barend extends ~135mm from the center of the handlebar. http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7304/kshepgc32.jpghttp://img11.imageshack.us/img11/ksh...jpg/1/w792.png http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/324/kshepgc3.jpghttp://img225.imageshack.us/img225/k...jpg/1/w792.png http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/7493/kshepgc31.jpghttp://img5.imageshack.us/img5/kshepgc31.jpg/1/w792.png |

All of the ones at Amazon were either out of stock or the small size. Thanks for the effort!

Thanks for the assistance, but guess I'll wait until domestic companies restock. Just to expensive, at about $75, coming from UK.
Thanks again for your help. |

Thanks again for your help. Gottcha. fwiw my hand measures 9.25 inches circumfrence (glove size inbetween medium and large) and the 'small' Ergons are perfect for me. |
Google is your friend. Keep checking.

Excellent pictures, KShep! :thumb:
I was curious as to how the longer and more curved end would work for me. I have a much better idea after seeing yours. Thanks! |
Well FWIW this is what one web site said about sizing of Ergon's GP1's.
The Ergon GP1 Superlight grip comes in four iterations. Standard width in Small and Large, and SRAM width in Small and Large. The size does not refer to the length but the thickness of the grip. The people at Ergon tell us that macho types assume they should have Large unless otherwise indicated, so consider this a warning. Ergon has found that most people, except those who have huge mitts, go with the Small. The smaller diameter is lighter, a bit stiffer, and easy to grab. Those with big hands and those who spend long, long days in the saddle might want to lean towards large. |

Thanks again for your help. 2009 Ergon GC3 Grip Good luck. |
I do have extra large hands, and longer fingers, to boot, but still don't find the round portion of the large grips overly broad. But, the flat (heel) portion, sure does help hold your wrists up, in much more comfort.
Many friends have tried my bike, and nobody, yet, has complained about the size of the grips. Many have complimented on the comfort. It does take a little fiddlin to get them adjusted to the correct angle for yourself. Just like a bike seat. edit: one more point, at least for me. The larger size of the Ergons is part of what makes them so much more comfortable. Your hand and fingers are not tightly wound, and stay in more of a relaxed position while still having good grip. That's a real plus, im my book. Just relax your hands, vs, having them tightly gripped in a small circle. What do they really look like, and which one feels better. It works the same on the bike. |
on the road or light trail, the large models worked fine for me. offroad, i preferred the racer style with the smaller palm area or the small gp1 model. the wife has the small gp1 style grip and loves them.

I almost never wrap my hand around the grip. The two positions I find most comfortable are with the palm of my hand resting on the grip pad and my fingers splayed out so my fingertips rest on the curve of the bar end or gripping the straight section of the bar end such that my palm is more verticle. As you noted....the more relaxed the better. |

It did take some patience to find the best angle for the grips.

Thanks for posting these pics. This really helps get a sense of how these things look on a bike.

Those do like like they should have a dagger attached so you could draw it out of your handlebars. "C'mere Doggie! Bark at me will'ya?! You're going down!!"
|
OK, why is there a separate SRAM version?
