v brake fork
 

i recently finished a refurb job on 1990 trek 800, to which i added v brakes. i like the 2 finger braking
and would like to put a v brake on the front of my hybrid converted ancient puch. i have a spare fuji fork, both the fuji and puch frames had 27" wheels, that could have studs brazed on or i get this sunlite fork which claims to be high tensile. i could not come up with another source for a hybrid fork. any opinions on the sunlite or alternate source? the sunlite source,

Should work - just make sure your bike accepts 1" steerers and not 1 1/8" steerers.

Check out a 29er fork, that might work. Some v-brakes have a lot of vertical adjustment in the pads so they should work.

the puch uses a threaded fork. i have never seen a threadless fork so i have no clue if one could be made to fit a frame designed for a threaded type fork.

Yes, you can convert to threadless if you want. You'll need to make sure the steerer sizes remain the same - IE: 1" threaded to 1" threadless. You'll also need a new headset, a threadless stem and some spacers.

Having the knowledge that your bike uses a threaded steerer, you may have better luck looking for a threaded fork deisgned for old school touring bikes - these would most likely have canti bosses.

The real question is - why do you want to convert to V-Brakes? and what type of brakes are you converting from?

the oem front brake is a center pull and i initially stated i put some vbrakes on my trek 800 and like the 2 finger braking. the vbrakes have a much better feel than the center pulls. going threadless would require not just the new fork, but head set and stem, might be a cost overrun for me. i also like the position of my current stem and bar setup, so i am not inclined to mess with it.
