hybrid vs. road bike advice sought

it is not elitism to point out facts, drop bars have more hand positions and sitting up right for many of us is extremely painful on both our posteriors but also lower back. Despite what some think, a "road bike" position is not uncomfortable as long as it is not taken to an extreme and of course that goes both ways, an upright bike does not have to hold the rider at a 90 degree straight up position, again, that is extreme.
unfortunately for you, i never said that a drop stance doesn't have plusses or is a good idea for people. so really, you are just mr. strawman.

exactly. since a lot of us ride in urban areas (myself in NYC), drop bars are not the best choice. i have an aggressive flat bar stance that suits me well for urban, suburban & off-road riding all at once. bar ends give my hands a change of pace during longer rides. is it for everyone? no. but drop stance elitism is getting really annoying.
