Trek 7000 Saddle
I have a Trek 7000, and I've been riding it quite a bit. My longest ride to date is 66 miles. However, I have numbness problems as a result of the stock Bontrager saddle. I tilted it forward last year and that fixed that problem but caused numbness in my hands.
So this year I tilted it back and I have the numbness caused by the pressure from the saddle. So far this year, I've tried the following: 1. Brooks B17 - it still caused numbness and my sit bones felt like they were being pulled apart 2. Brooks B68 after 3 weeks the side of the nose started flaring out and caused chafing, and I still had a lot of pain in my sit bones 3. Terry Liberator Y - it caused a unique pain in the groin I can quite describe, and after 20 miles or so my sit bones really started hurting, I also got borderline chaffing on the back of my thighs I'm thinking about the Terry Cite Gel Y, but I'm concerned the nose will be too wide and I'll get chaffing. Anyone else have any other ideas for the Trek 7000? I ride pretty upright, and really only ride aggressively occasionally and not for more than a few miles at a time. |
That brooks B17 looks like a very hard saddle.
You probably want something with gel indeed. Does a Selle Royal Ergogel look like an option? Are you sure your riding style is pushing your behind from the saddle enough? |

As far as the Selle Royal Ergogel goes, their web site doesn't seem to have much information on the different styles. When I look for places to buy one, those are even harder to find. |
Any other suggestions? I'm actually thinking about trying one of those no-nose saddles from Wal-Mart, since I won't have return shipping if it doesn't work. I've paid about $60 in shipping on saddles so far with nothing to show for it.

Well, the no-nose saddle was a failure. I was way too far forward on the bike, and it felt like I was going to fall off no matter what I did.

Hi - REI (at least by me) sells a Selle "Respiro" that I recently purchased (I have a Trek 7200 and the numbness 'down there' was extreme after 20-30 miles).
I initially bought the "athletic" version and didn't care for it - I researched here and on the web and a number of folks recommeded that same saddle but in 'moderate' - its a bit wider with more gel padding. I rode this past weekend 22 miles and there was absolutely no "butt pain". I've ridden it for shorter rides and no problem either. Time will tell if it's good for the 30-40+ mile rides, but I think it will be. You might want to check that one out. It's 54.00 and the REI return policy let's you try it to see if it's right for you. |

The relaxed looks good - but REI doesn't carry. I base my opinion on absolutely NOTHING, but I think it's a bit too wide for longer distances. Again = based on 0 so take that for what it's worth. THe Selle package says that if you don't like the saddle you can return it to your dealer within 120 days. (I have two kids and really don't have the $$$ to experiement with a bunch of saddles .... I read what I could = tried the thinner one, returned it and got the moderate - and I'm happy).
Best wishes!!! |
chandltp = i just checked and the moderate DOES NOT have the 'try for 120 day's' printing on it. REI is great with returns/exchanges and I love them, but just don't want you to spend your money and not be able to return it. ron

I just put this one on my bike today. It is the "atheletic" version and the womens' width. Here's hoping. I was impressed with the reviews of this Respiro saddle.
