I'm Torn (Trek vs. Specialized vs. Cannondale)
My apologies in advance for yet another ____ vs. ____ thread, but I can't make up my mind and hoping someone's opinion will help break the tie.
I have a Trek mtn bike. I'm going to add a hybrid, and then, down the road, a road bike. I'm trying to choose between a Specialized Sirrus, a Cannondale Quick and one of the lower end Trek FX bikes, a 7.1 or 7.2
I've ridden all of them except the 7.1 and I like them all fine, they all look nice, they're all similarly priced. I guess it's a no lose choice if they're all this close. I suppose I'm leaning toward Trek just because I like the brand, but if anyone has any of these bikes, I would be grateful to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I had to choose between a Sirrus Sport and a similarly priced Trek FX. I chose the Sirrus Sport. I already had a Trek mountain bike for offroad, and the Sirrus just seemed more nimble and road worthy. The Trek FX was a great bike, and maybe the better built of the two, but less of a road bike than the Sirrus. If you already have a mountain bike, the Sirrus probably makes the more sense of the two.

Go to one of these dealers and see if they have the 2009 Jamis Coda, Coda Sport or Coda Comp in closeout. I think you should ride one before you make a decision.

Neither of them stood out as a more comfortable, better fit? Then I would go with which store I liked dealing with, and the location of the store.
I have the basic Sirrus and love it, but haven't tried the other ones.

Actually none of them stood out, and the (non sales commissioned) fellow at the LBS nudged me toward the 7.3, which cosmetically I liked a lot to begin with. It's got a beautiful blue paint job and what I presume are polished aluminum handlebars, etc. But I wasn't going to spend $200 more because I like Carrera blue more than navy blue!

Still, when I came back from my lap around the block with the Sirrus, he had a 7.3 waiting for me, so I took it for a spin. What a difference! WAY better than the 7.1, which was contrary to my experience when buying a mountain bike. The Trek 3500, 3700, 3900 and 4300 didn't feel very different to me. But the 7.3 as opposed to the 7.1 was much smoother, shifted signigicantly better, the brakes were...plusher, if that makes any sense, and again, it's better looking. So I juggled the budget up a bit and put a deposit on the 7.3. I'll have to wait two more weeks, but it will be worth it.

You did right in buying the FX with the better frame and componentry.
Getting the color you like the best is icing on the cake.
And, you can make the FX a little more roadworthy, by switching to a more high performance tire, maybe even narrower, when you wear those OEMs out. If you like the way it rides, fits, and feels, you can make it just about anything you want.
Enjoy, and don't forget the pics when it gets home = there is a picture thread on the Hybrid Forums - and it's nice to graze thru there once in awhile, to see what others have done....
