Official Trek 7.9 FX thread
no, I don't have one, just a 7700 from a few years ago.
if the darn thing would die I could get a 7.9
or would like to hear about bikes that are better for the money.

Personally, I think the Cannondale Quick Carbon 1 is a better value.. It's also a flat-bar carbon-frame road bike with an Ultegra drivetrain like the $2800 Trek 7.9 FX, but the Cannondale's MSRP is $250 less (which one can put towards buying accessories for the bike).
Me, I ride a Specialized Sirrus LTD, also a carbon-frame flat-bar road bike with an Ultegra drivetrain. Cost me just $2000 when I bought it in 2006. Specialized does still make a carbon-frame Sirrus but they switched over to an SRAM drivetrain.
Of course if one REALLY wants to shave down costs, BikesDirect has a $1300 Motobecane Cafe Century Pro (flat bar carbon bike with Ultegra drivetrain), but it uses cantilever brakes, which is unusual.

Hehehe ... never mind just jokin'
I went over to the Trek site and had a look at those 7.9FX's.
Must say I would be pretty disappointed to pay $2800 for a bike with a 105 crank.
They could have at least put an ultegra crank and cassette on there for that kind of price.

You ever owned or used a current 105 crank or cassette and/or directly compared it to an Ultegra crank back to back ?

That's asking a bit too much but if you wait for the right sale why not.
I did a quick search and aparently bikesdirect even has a titanium frame full dura ace bike for $2800

Or better .... ??
I know yo're probably kidding, but ... show me one bike with an MSRP of $2,800 that gives you a full Dura-Ace gruppo. The Dura-Ace gruppo itself costs $2,600 to $5,000, depending. That being said, I think all that high end stuff is way over priced. But it is what it is.

I'm in Kingsville, 40km south of Detroit/Windsor. Been raining here too. The weather so far this spring has been the crappiest I can remember in quite a while. It just refuses to warm up.

The handlebar is great and allows for a nice tuck when needed. It also presumably dampens road vibrations very nicely but it's hard to tell the incremental improvement as the whole bike is carbon. The only drawback is that they are a bit wider than I would like. You can't cut them because of the extensions. It would not leave enough space for the grip, shifter and brake levers.

... you could always get some brake/shift combo to save space and you could even cut the grips if they are too wide.
Furthermore I advise you to mount your computer on your stem so as to leave your cool handlebar to have a more aero handposition and meanwhile improve the symmetricity (does that word even exist?) of the bike.
Maybe you could even mount some grips on them or cut them to size to make them fit ... I did with my aerobar and certainly wouldn't go back.
