Serfas saddle choices?
Hey guys, 'nother newbie here. Proud owner of a 2010 Marin San Rafael for the last few months.
I've returned to cycling at age 58 after a several decade layoff. This is my first "real" bike and I'm lovin' it. Here's what I've discovered so far, what you pay for the bike is really only about half the story. Double that amount for new rigid forks, Ergon grips, pedals, blinkies, racks, locks and now a saddle that won't feel like I'm sitting just on the seat post after a few miles. After looking around here I've decided the Serfas MX 2 Dorado might be the ticket to give my poor taint a much needed break. My dilemma arose when Amazon offered the mens model for $40, and the womens model for $26. The womens appears to be identical save for 1/4 inch shorter and 1/2 inch wider at exactly the same weight. BTW, the womens has the exact dimensions as my stock WTB V-whatever saddle. So should I get in touch with my feminine (back) side? Oh, the womens is pink. I kid. :D Thanks, Coyote |
I'd spend a little more and get the Serfas RX-921L. I've seen them for $43. But, if you go with the MX-2 get the men's.

Edit to add, I'm 6'1"-190#, fit and trim and the medium-ish padding on my stock saddle seems fine, it's just that the cut out under the taint area looks appealing. Thanks, Coyote |

A women's saddle is likely to be too wide, even if you think the dimensions are similar, it is where the sit bones situate that is important. The RX is more comfortable than the MX according to my butt. I put a Serfas RX on my Giant Cypress DX and haven't looked back. I know its heavier, and if you want to save weight by all means go with the MX, but get the men's.
